How the new Tesla Model 3 became more comfortable than the old one

Recently restyled, the Tesla Model 3 features a new suspension for increased comfort as well as better handling during sporty driving. However, you will have to wait a little longer before being able to benefit from it, while other improvements have been made to the electric car.

Six years after its reveal, the Tesla Model 3 finally gets a much-anticipated restyling. The latter was revealed to the public for the very first time at the Munich Motor Show, where we were able to get a closer look at the sedan. In total, more than 40 new features have been introduced by the manufacturer in this new version.

More comfort but not only

Among them, increasing autonomy. Not to mention the interior, which offers itself a new dashboard as well as ambient lighting and more comfortable seats. And for good reason, Tesla is keen to make this restyled Model 3 more pleasant for its passengers. And this also involves the adoption ofa brand new suspensionwhich had not previously been detailed.

But now we finally know a little more, thanks to the site Not A Tesla App. The latter gives us some information on this new suspension, which offers more comfort but also increased dynamism on the electric sedan. The latter is not developed by the brand itself but by the Dutch company Konispecialized in suspensions.

But what is the specificity of this system? Well the latter does evolve the damping according to the frequency of movement of the car, and therefore the condition of the road. This makes it possible to offer optimized behavior according to the driving style and needs of the driver. High-frequency movements, found on uneven roads, are damped to provide optimal comfort.

Conversely, low frequency movements, which are generally associated with a more dynamic rhythm, are more damped to better handling and road holding. The suspension is logically firmed up in sporty driving, a bit like some drivers already offer with their adaptive systems.

A clear improvement

But in most cases, traditional systems have their limits and are not capable ofoffer both comfort and dynamism. Not as much as the new Tesla Model 3 according to the site. However, we will still have to wait before being able to test this functionality, since the first copies which will be equipped with this system will hit the roads in the coming weeks in Europe.

Not A Tesla App recalls that the Koni brand is already very popular with Tesla owners, who use it to modify their car. Some even noted an increase in autonomy with these suspensions. But this is not the first time that the manufacturer has improved the comfort of its cars. In October 2022, the Model 3 and Model Y were equipped with new, more flexible damping.

In March, the electric SUV, which remains the best-selling zero-emission (exhaust) car in France, benefited from yet another improvement offering better handling. But only copies manufactured in Shanghai were then affected. At the beginning of the year, the American manufacturer filed a patent for a more advanced system, capable of anticipating road deformations.

However, the latter, which rests on a device with jacks does not seem to have seen the light of day yet. We are still far from the technology developed by BYD, which allows a car to jump in place or roll on three wheels. Note that Tesla also equips its new Model 3 with double glazing for increased comfort. For its part, the Model S incorporates air suspension which further increases comfort.
