how the smartphone risks dazzling you, literally

The OnePlus 12 should have the brightest screen on the market, but you won’t be able to take full advantage of it. It is nevertheless a true technological feat.

The OnePlus 12 has not yet been officially presented, but we already know almost everything about it. The Chinese manufacturer set out to reveal everything you needed to know about it ahead of its launch, and it has just lifted the veil on all the technical characteristics of its screen.

We now know that the screen will be a 6.82-inch 8T LTPO OLED panel with a definition of 1440 x 3168 px and a refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz, depending on the content displayed. Better yet, it would be the brightest screen ever seen in a smartphone.

The OnePlus 12 has the brightest screen on the market

The BOE signed panel should offer maximum brightness of 4,500 nits, far from what the best screens on the market offer. In comparison, the Xiaomi 14 caps at 3000 nits, while the iPhone 15 Pro announces “only” 2000 nits.

However, you should never reach these numbers, as they are only measured in a specific HDR scenario on only 10% of the panel. In reality, the OnePlus 12 was measured at 1722 nits, which is still much higher than the norm.

In addition to this very high brightness, the OnePlus 12 has an average just noticeable color difference (JNCD) value of 0.35 and an A+ certification from DisplayMate thanks to its exceptional brightness and color accuracy.

Finally, note that the new screen is paired with a P1 display chip from Oppo and features PWM dimming at 2160 Hz for better eye protection. We also know that the new panel developed by BOE will offer better color accuracy thanks to sunlight highlighting algorithms and single-pixel calibration technology.

The global launch will likely take place in 2024, with leaker Max Jambor claiming it will take place on January 23. It is on this date that we should know the prices in France, provided that the smartphone is launched here.
