How to activate parental controls on Disney + Star step by step

Star, the new Disney+ section launched in February 2021, is aimed at an adult audience. Thanks to the age classification of profiles and the establishment of a PIN code, you can activate parental controls to block access to children.

While Disney + has a catalog for the whole family, this new platform will offer more mature content. Star is thus displayed on the Disney + home page like Pixar, Marvel, National Geographic or Marvel. To prevent young children from accessing this age-inappropriate content, you can activate parental controls.

How do I activate parental controls on Disney+?

To protect young audiences, you can restrict their access to some of the content present in the catalogs on Disney +. Here’s how to do it.

Enable age rating

You can connect to Disney + from your connected TV, computer, tablet or smartphone. The streaming platform offers you the possibility of creating several profiles on the same account. For each profile, you can define an age rating, which will restrict the contents offered in the catalog according to the age of the user.

Disney+ offers 7 ratings:

  • 0+ : All ages
  • 6+ : Some scenes may not be suitable for children under 6 years old
  • 9+ : Some scenes may not be suitable for children under 9 years old
  • 12+ : Some scenes may not be suitable for viewers under the age of 12
  • 14+ : Some scenes may not be suitable for viewers under the age of 14
  • 16+ : Some scenes may not be suitable for viewers under the age of 16
  • 18+ : Some scenes may not be suitable for viewers under the age of 18

Each profile’s library will automatically be filtered based on these age ratings. Each member of the family will then be able to enjoy the videos adapted to their page.
If you have not activated a rating, by default the profile will be limited to 14+, which will block access to Star.

To enable age rating:

  • Log into your Disney+ account and click on your profile icon.
  • Select Edit profiles from the drop-down menu and choose the profile you want to classify.
  • In the section Parental controlyou can either activate the Child profileor select Classification. You will then have to enter your password before choosing the most suitable age classification.

Set up a PIN to protect profiles

To prevent children from browsing through your different profiles, you can set up a PIN code. The PIN code is in the form of 4 digits. To configure your PIN code:

  • Log into your Disney+ account and click on your profile icon.
  • Select Medit profiles from the drop-down menu and choose the profile you want to protect with a PIN.
  • In the section Parental controlchoose Pin code then fill in your password to define your Pin code.
