Whatever the case, press version of information: in the midst of a health crisis, shortly after the first confinement, the government proposed a tax credit encouraging the less well-off households to subscribe to a press title. The measure eventually evolved in Parliament to become a tax credit valid only once, per household, over a period from May 9, 2021 to December 31, 2022. Amount: 30% of the annual subscription.

It is via the 2022 declaration, accessible since Thursday on impots.gouv.fr, that you can claim this tax credit. Under tax reductions and credits, look for the box 7PA, first subscription to the political and general information press.

Who is this tax credit intended for?

The tax administration is unambiguous: Only sums paid under a first subscription eligible are likely to be entitled to the benefit of the tax credit. The condition relating to the first subscription is analyzed at the level of the household to which the person taking out the subscription belongs. In the texts, there is therefore no question of taking advantage of it for a subscription that has been running for many years…

Important: for this declaration, only payments made in 2021 from May 9 are taken into account. Are eligible the subscriptions with a minimum duration of 12 months a daily, a weekly, a monthly or at most a quarterly magazine, or an online press service providing political and general information.

What supporting documents should I keep?

To prove the subscription, the press title must provide you with a receipt (n2041-RP, cerfa n16153*01available at impots.gouv.fr) which you will keep in the event of an inspection.

Note: for this 2022 declaration, this tax credit is not subject to income conditions. On the other hand, the tax credit to be claimed in 2023 on subscriptions taken out in 2022 will be subject to means testing (no more than 24,000 euros of RFR for a share of family quotient).
