how to correct your tax return

An error has crept into your tax return? Did you forget to tick the “correct” box to benefit from the tax reduction for tuition fees, or to declare a donation made to an association, or the pension that you had paid in 2021 to your adult children?

Even if your tax notice is already available in your personal space, it is not too late to correct the situation. The simplest ? If you have completed your declaration online or if you have benefited from the automatic declaration system, you can correct your declaration online. Like every summer, the online correction service has just opened. It is accessible from your personal space on www.impot.gouv.fr.

No explanation to give

This service allows you to correct most of the information essential to the tax calculation, such as the amount of your taxable income, your deductible expenses, the number of dependents or even to indicate expenses giving rise to a credit or to a tax reduction that you forgot to mention during your initial declaration… All you have to do is correct your declaration directly on the screen. You have no explanation to give, nor proof to provide in support of your corrections.

You can also rectify the elements relating to the calculation of your real estate wealth tax (IFI) if you are subject to this tax.

You will receive a corrective tax notice which will take into account the additional elements brought to your information.

On the other hand, if you have filed a paper declaration, you do not have access to this service. To correct an error or omission, a new declaration must be submitted. To do this, you must obtain a blank form; you can download it at www.impot.gouv.fr

Do not forget to indicate that this is a corrective declaration which replaces the one you filed last April or May. You will have to include all the elements that appeared on your initial declaration (including the information that was pre-filled) and not just the changes you wish to make to your declaration.
