How to delete Whatsapp contacts on Android and iOS

If you want to delete a Whatsapp contact and remove the chat, then that’s no problem. We’ll show you how to do it on both Android and iOS.

We explain step by step how you can easily delete Whatsapp contacts and Android and iOS on the iPhone and also remove entire chat histories. If you don’t want to delete a contact right away, but still don’t want to receive any more messages from them, you can also block Whatsapp contacts.

How to delete contacts in Whatsapp

Android:

  • In the open chat, tap the contact’s name at the top.

  • Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select View in Address Book.

  • In the address book, tap the three-dot menu for “More” again and select “Delete.”

  • In Whatsapp, tap on the “Start new chat” icon in the bottom right, then on the three-point menu and then on “Refresh”.

The contact is now successfully deleted from Whatsapp and also from your general address book. If you also want to remove the chat history with the person, then long press on the respective chat in the Whatsapp main view and then tap on the trash can icon.

iOS:

  • Open Whatsapp on your iPhone and select the contact to delete.

  • Tap the contact’s name at the top of the chat window for more info.

The contact is now successfully deleted from Whatsapp but also from the iPhone address book. To now also remove the corresponding chat, long press on the chat in the Whatsapp main view and then on “Delete chat”.

What the deleted contact can still see and do

You will now find the deleted contact neither in Whatsapp nor in the address book. However, you are still saved with him, which is why he can still send you messages. Depending on the setting, he will continue to see your online status and your profile picture. So that the deleted contact can no longer see this, you only have to select “My contacts” in your Whatsapp settings under “Privacy” under the respective item such as “Profile picture”.

Also, if you don’t want the contact to be able to continue WhatsApping you, you can block them.
