Despite its popularity and the introduction of a paid subscription, Nitro, the company is not generating enough revenue. This is why Discord decided to broadcast advertisements, something the company had always refused to do. They still have a particular functioning. These are “quests” allowing you to earn rewards if someone watches you stream the game for a certain time. Tasks to complete may also be requested. If all this doesn’t interest you, there is an easy way to do without it.
Here’s how to turn off ads on Discord, whether you have a Nitro subscription or not
When Discord announced the arrival of ads, it was expected that subscribers would Nitro have the option to display them or not, while free users would not have had a choice. Obviously, this is not the case since anyone can disable the display of quests (ads) in Discord. Follow these steps:
- Once in Discord, click the gear in the bottom left, next to the headset and mic icons, to access the User Settings.
- Go to the menu Privacy & Securityat the top of the left column.
- Go down the page and deactivate the line In-game rewards (aka quests)as in the screenshot below.
Once done, you will no longer see the quest banners at the bottom left of Discord. Note that you can still find them if you wish to accept one by going to the User Settings then in the menu Gift inventory. At the time of publishing this article, there is only one quest available. It concerns the game The Finals and offers to win “the Skill Issue Set” if at least one of your friends on Discord watches you stream the title for 15 minutes or more.
