Baby’s room

For the baby’s room, plan a healthy place. The ideal: parquet on the floor and paint on the walls.

Do not clutter its place of life of lint which will be real dust nests (but do not remove all the lint either). Wash regularly fluff in a fragile cycle with the same Le Chat Bébé detergent that you use for her little clothes.

Ventilate regularly to renew the air.

And especially, make sure that the temperature in the room at night does not exceed 18 or 19 ° C. baby still has trouble regulating his temperature, it is important not to overheat the room.

In the bed, only a mattress sheet (to avoid small accidents such as diaper overflow or vomiting) and a fitted sheet. No duvet, sheets or blanket.

Small recap ‘: How to dress baby at night according to the temperature of his room?

Dress up baby for the night when it’s cold

When it’s cold, give your baby:

  • A long-sleeved bodysuit
  • Warm one-piece pajamas (also called a onesie or sleepsuit)
  • A sleeping bag or an overpyjama

The long-sleeved bodysuit covers baby’s tummy and arms well. Prefer those which close by pressure, more practical than those which are tied on the stomach.

The velor one-piece pajamas are ideal. Avoid two-piece pajamas which tend to slip when baby moves in his bed, he would often end up tummy up.

To cover it: a sleeping bag (or sleeping bag) which can also be replaced by an overpyjama. Practical, it allows baby to stay well covered up to the tips of his toes, even if he wriggles a lot in his sleep. But skip the sheets and blankets, they don’t add anything and baby may just get tangled in them and have his breathing hampered. Some sleeping bags have removable sleeves: practical when temperatures vary.

Dress up baby for the night when it’s hot

When it’s hot, you have to be especially careful not to over-cover your baby. Plan:

  • A short-sleeved bodysuit
  • Lightweight pajamas
  • A light sleeping bag

Don’t leave baby naked to sleep. Even during hot weather, leave him at least one bodysuit (sleeveless or short-sleeved) to protect his skin from friction with the fitted sheet.

The summer sleeping bag, lighter than the winter one, allows baby to be sufficiently covered without suffering from the heat. When it is over 24 ° C, there is no point in making baby sleep with it. The bodysuit and the light pajamas are enough.

In the event of a heat wave or staying in a country with very hot nights (from 26 ° C), put your baby to bed with only his diaper and a short-sleeved bodysuit.

The little trick: As soon as you return from the maternity ward, try to put your baby to bed while he is still awake. This will help him learn and get into the habit of falling asleep on his own.

Swaddling

An ancestral technique rediscovered ten years ago, swaddling consists of wrapping baby in a fabric or blanket during the first 3 months of his life. By limiting the disorderly movements of the arms while exerting a light pressure on the stomach, the swaddling contains the baby and thus helps him to relax and to sleep better. Besides the famous Miracle blanket, there are many swaddling sleeping bags specially designed for this purpose and very easy to use.
