Last year, Apple took advantage of its WWDC 2023 conference to present its most ambitious product in years now: the Vision Pro headset. This time, the star of the event will not be a new product, but new features that use artificial intelligence.
Scheduled to start on June 10 with the traditional main Keynote at 7 p.m., French time, WWDC 2024 promises to be an exciting event for developers and technology enthusiasts. The AI revolution takes center stage
While WWDC has always focused on software updates and developer tools, the event should this time be dominated by a single theme: artificial intelligence (AI). Internet users around the world have often expressed concern that Apple is falling behind its rivals, such as Google, Microsoft and OpenAI, in the race to integrate generative AI capabilities. However, CEO Tim Cook has promised to tackle this problem, and WWDC 2024 is the perfect opportunity to showcase Apple’s AI ambitions.
Rumors are circulating about a potential deal between Apple and OpenAI, the company behind the famous GPT language model. This partnership could make Apple a formidable competitor in the field of AI. Reports suggest that Apple’s AI efforts will be dubbed “Apple Intelligence,” with the caveat that not all recent Apple devices may be able to take advantage of the new system. It would be necessary an iPhone 15 Pro and its A17 Pro processor at least or an iPad equipped with an M chip to take advantage of these new features.

iOS 18 and the resurgence of Siri
One of the most anticipated announcements at WWDC 2024 is the unveiling of iOS 18, Apple’s next-generation mobile operating system. Reports indicate that iOS 18 will be infused with AI improvements, including breathing new life into Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant. According to Bloomberg, Apple has reworked Siri using large language modelswhich allows it to better understand user requests, respond to them and even take action within Apple’s applications.
Besides the Siri redesign, iOS 18 is expected to introduce features like summaries of messages and web pagesreal-time transcriptions in notes and voice memos, custom emoji generation and the ability to remove objects and people from an image using AI technology. Many of the features will also be present on macOS 15, to further integrate Apple’s software ecosystem and provide a consistent experience across all devices.
Finally, note that while WWDC is traditionally a software-focused event, Apple has made hardware announcements in recent years, such as the introduction of Apple Silicon updates and last year’s unveiling of the Reality Headset mixed Vision Pro. However, the latest rumors suggest that WWDC this year could be an off year for hardware launches. No new Vision Pro or MacBook equipped with M4 chips on the horizon for this summer.
