Tonight, it’s the big night. The Game Awards 2023 is the evening where the wildest dreams can come true. For its tenth edition, the ceremony once again promises to be rich in announcements. Return of titles that have disappeared from the radar, revelation of games or extensions, new licenses and other surprises will be in order. Developers and publishers do not simply come to celebrate the best productions of the year, they above all take advantage of the aura of the event to make an impression with their next productions. Whether you are a PS5, Xbox Series, PC or Nintendo Switch player, there is something for everyone. Date, time, confirmed games, expected, rumors, how to watch the conference? We’re doing a big recap.
It’s the big night. Tonight, the Game Awards 2023 will reward the best games of the year in around ten categories. Who from Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2 or even Zelda TOTK will win the coveted GOTY title? See you on the night of December 7 to 8 at 1:30 a.m., French time, for a ceremony that promises to be most exceptional. And for good reason, the event will celebrate its tenth anniversary, suggesting an edition even richer in surprising announcements to mark the occasion. The slogan “Wolrd Premiere” may disappear, but unexpected revelations will still be in place.
Geoff Keighley promises a great show for at least 2h30, but less than three hours with around thirty to forty announcements on the programme. As usual, the Game Awards 2023 will be broadcast on the official ceremony channels on Twitch and YouTube. You can count on your faithful servants to be on point and to give you all the big announcements the same evening.
What to expect for this edition? Confirmed games
The ceremony will be a little shorter, but Geoff Keighley promises as many if not more announcements than the edition. Count around forty trailers and revelations of all kinds, with even more new licenses revealed on occasion. These Game Awards 2023 could therefore be the event of all surprises, Geoff Keighley being less inclined than previous editions to confirm the arrival of certain major players in the industry. So, what to expect? A few names and announcements were nevertheless released.
Starting with one of the potential winners of the evening: Baldur’s Gate 3. After a monumental success on PS5 and PC, the CRPG from Larian Studios is preparing to conquer Xbox Series players. With some eight nominations, the Belgian studio will reveal the release date on the console on the occasion. There is a good chance that we will see a shadowdrop, this technique which consists of launching a game directly after its announcement. Exactly, Xbox players should be spoiled during the Game Awards 2023. Microsoft will make “important announcements not to be missed”. Beyond new additions to Xbox Game Pass, the green brand could show some games that are still timid. Headlining, a certain Hellblade 2which should be one of the big releases of 2024. We can also expect news from Avowed or even South Of Midnight.
As for Fable 4 or the Indiana Jones game from MachineGames, bets are off. For the rest, Ubisoft will present the story of Prince of Persia The Lost Crown time for a trailer. Supermassive Games, known for The Quarry and Until Dawn, will tackle a big piece: Dead by Daylight. The new single-player game set in the universe of the asymmetrical multi title will be revealed during the Game Awards 2023. Finally, SEGA confirmed its presence by sending a few influencers a mysterious letter with simple words: “NEW ERA NEW ENERGY” (new new energy era). We don’t know if this is related to Metaphor ReFantaziothe next ATLUS production which will have something to show during the ceremony.

Update on The Game Awards 2023 rumors
For the rest of the games presented, the rumors are rife, even if they are less persistent than in previous years. However, some leaks have already surfaced. EA will visibly complete the catalog of its Originals label with a promising new production, on paper. Her name : Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, a 2.5D and side-scrolling game that would be happily inspired by the Trine series. Its release would be scheduled for April 23, 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series and PC. No image of this new production has been revealed, we will have to wait until this evening to discover its artistic direction and what he has in his stomach.
In the independent section, a notable title should return with a remake: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. The first game of Joseph Fares, creator of It Take Two, will visibly offer a graphic overhaul ten years after its initial release. The Game Awards 2023 seem to be protected from leaks this year, but some rumors suggest much more juicy announcements. Among the most anticipated, the revelation of the DLC ofElden Ring: Shadow of the World Tree. The game’s development branches have indeed received several consecutive updates. These patches are far from trivial, since the last time the Steam version of the game received them, they then gave way to the free Colosseum DLC. There is therefore a good chance that the previous GOTY will return at the Game Awards 2023 to ignite an entire community which is desperately awaiting new content.
Returns of licenses and missing games
This edition could also mark the return of games that have disappeared from the radar like Unknown 9: Awakening, the narrative game that caught the eye of many players in 2020 when it was announced, before being completely forgotten. It recently reappeared in a listing from a classification body, suggesting an imminent announcement. Arkane Lyon should make a particularly anticipated announcement. Seven years after the release of the second episode, the French flagship would be ready to announce the sequel: Dishonored 3. An opus that could explore new regions, powers and characters, if we rely on previous statements from the studio.
And how can we talk about rumors at the 2023 Game Awards without mentioning Geoff Keighley’s big buddy: Hideo Kojima, who made the trip to Los Angeles. It remains to be seen whether he will give any news of Death Stranding 2which could be released next year on PS5, or its famous project with Microsoft which would be a certain Overdose. Unless he comes to announce another podcast, with him you can never be sure, but all the lights are green for him to make his big announcement during his great friend’s tenth ceremony.
The games planned for the ceremony
The Game Awards 2023 is also expected to highlight a handful of games that will launch in 2024 and beyond. Several titles are expected, including those nominated in the most anticipated games category. Square Enix could return with a new appetizer for FF7 Rebirth, fans are never short of trailers to dissect in detail. Perhaps the publisher will prefer to highlight one of the upcoming FF16 DLCs, especially since the game will receive an update the day after the ceremony. Then there is this insistent rumor around FF9 Remake. The ninth episode could do with a little overhaul, less important than the seventh that said. The creator of the license had promised surprising announcements not related to Final Fantasy 7, maybe it’s this project?
Emancipated from Square Enix to fall into the voracious clutches of Embracer, Lara Croft was to appear by the end of the year according to a rumor. Amazon could mark the occasion by announcing the next tomb Raider, which are still entrusted to Crystal Dynamics. For its part, Ubisoft could take advantage of the event to highlight some of its upcoming productions. Skull & Bones would (still) have a release date set internally, perhaps he will want to reveal it to the general public at the Game Awards 2023.
If there is little hope for seeing more of Assassin’s Creed Red, the episode in Japan, and even less for Beyond Good & Evil 2, the French publisher could celebrate the presence of Star Wars Outlaws in the most anticipated games of next year by revealing new images. In the galaxy far, far away, a game is also in the works at Quantic Dream. If we can make our Christmas list before time, then we happily add to it Star Wars Eclipse. Major manufacturers could also take advantage of the aura of the ceremony to give a preview of their portfolio for next year. Sony has a few cartridges up its sleeve like DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Wolverine or Rise of the Ronin. Xbox also has many projects in progress, including the reboot of Perfect Dark and Contraband who are still very discreet.
Games we could see at The Game Awards 2023
The independent scene will obviously be in the spotlight during these 2023 Game Awards. We hope that Hades 2 or even a certain Hollow Knight: Silksong will make a notable appearance.
