We scroll enough on our phones already, so scrolling through a mile-long spreadsheet only to end up losing its place to headers is a hassle. We don’t always use the top row as the header of a table. It may therefore be necessary to freeze the second or third line so that the information is always visible.
Or maybe you want to quickly compare the data of two rows separated by pages. This is where freezing the rows will help you get a more organized spreadsheet.
How to freeze rows in Excel?
Step 1 : select the line below the one you want to freeze. If your table header is on row 3, select row 4. The row above the selected row is the one that will be frozen.
2nd step : go in Display and click on Freeze Panes. It is done !
And for the columns?
Excel can automatically freeze the first column of a worksheet if you click the button Freeze first column under Display. But if you want to freeze another column, just select the one to the right of where you want to freeze it and click Freeze Panes.
How can I use this function to compare information?
The same steps apply to freeze a line below the header. To compare row 12 with row 87, select row 13 and click Freeze Panes. Anything above row 13 will be frozen, so row 12 will remain visible while you scroll through row 87.
Can I unfreeze panes in Excel?
Excel has a button that allows users to unfreeze panes. Click on Displayand the button Release the shutters will be in place of Freeze Panes.
