How to install ChatGPT on your iPhone?

After an exclusive launch in the United States, the official application of ChatGPT is available on the App Store in France. For iPhone owners, this is the best way to use (or experience) the generative AI.

Is it possible you haven’t heard of ChatGPT? Since its launch in November 2022, OpenAI’s generative artificial intelligence has become a topic of discussion like any other, which agitates fans of new technologies as much as the general public. Some see it as a revolutionary advance that will make our lives easier, others as a threat to humanity. Regardless, ChatGPT is a worldwide phenomenon and has initiated a technological transformation (Google and Microsoft will not say the opposite).

Lacking an official app, ChatGPT has been imitated by many on the App Store and Play Store. Since May 24, OpenAI has finally offered a mobile version of its chatbot, first on iPhone (the Android version will arrive later). An effective way to add artificial intelligence to your daily routine.

ChatGPT on iPhone is extremely easy to use

To install ChatGPT on your iPhone, go to the App Store (or click directly here). To make sure you download the real application, make sure that its developer is OpenAI. Logically, you should find ChatGPT easily in the ranking of the most downloaded applications.

Upon first opening, you will find that ChatGPT is extremely easy to use. Log in or create an account (it takes a few seconds using the “Sign in with Apple” option) and you will immediately have access to the AI, which can be used for free. Connection with Google or an email address is also possible, but a little less instantaneous.

Once inside the app, you will find that the app just displays a conversation. No tabs, no “sandwich menu”, no images or logos… The settings, the history and the generation of a new conversation are hidden in a sub-menu hidden in a button at the top right. The application is of a rare minimalism, which can disturb at first sight.

At the bottom of the screen, a text field allows you to ask questions to ChatGPT who, you will see if you discover him for the first time, is incredibly talented. Able to answer almost anything, including the most complex problems, the generator AI is often very impressive.

Exclusivity of the mobile application: a small button to the right of the text field allows you to ask a question by voice, like Siri. The response will then be displayed as text. A widget for the locked screen of the iPhone is also available, to launch ChatGPT as soon as you grab your smartphone.

In its settings, ChatGPT offers to subscribe to the ChatGPT Plus paid option, which allows you to use the GPT-4 language model and to try new features in preview, such as web search. OpenAI allows you to subscribe directly from the App Store for 22.99 euros per month (against 20 dollars per month from its site, without conversion into euros). An astonishing choice, since it forces him to share 30% of his income with Apple. However, it is a more convenient option for users, who will not have to worry about the conversion rate or bank charges.
