How to install Threads, the new Twitter, on iPhone and Android? (but we do not recommend)

Like many applications, Threads is desired on the Old Continent. Non-compliant with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Meta’s social network is not yet available in Europe; we must therefore be cunning to install the application on our French smartphones, iPhone and Android, especially since the Threads.net site is not yet active.

Obviously, VPN owners will have already located in the country of Uncle Sam to download the application on their mobile and start using this new social network. If you don’t have a VPN, luckily it’s possible to bypass the restrictions and install the app, risk-free.

Whether you have a Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, Xiaomi or any other brand smartphone, the process is the same as long as it runs on Google’s Android operating system.

Threads is not available on the French Google Play Store, but the Android operating system allows the installation of applications from third-party sources. This will require downloading an .apk file, the application installation file.

• App and notification > Special app access > Installing unknown apps
• Launch the application.

For the rest, just log in with your Instagram account, which should be offered. Threads then offers to import his profile (biography) and automatically follow all his contacts.

Installed from a third-party source, Threads will not benefit from updates. It will therefore be necessary to think of uninstalling the application when it is officially released on French territory to download it from the Play Store.

Install Threads on an iPhone

For Apple iPhones, the procedure is different. The iOS operating system does not allow the installation of applications outside the App Store, it will be necessary to use a US account to be able to access the US Store.

To do this, go to your iPhone settings. Click on your name then “Multimedia content and purchases” before selecting “Sign out”. Then, you will have to reconnect with an American account. If you don’t have one, here’s how to do it.

• Go to appleid.apple.com
• Start the account creation process by clicking on Create your Apple ID
• In the tab Regionselect United States

On your iPhone, then go back to Settings > Multimedia content and purchases and connect your new US account.

In the App Store, search for the Threads app then click on “Get”. Apple will ask for account verification and a payment method. Select “None” and choose a public place in the country of Uncle Sam as the billing address.

Threads, an Instagram app

Threads is considered a text rival to Twitter. Created by Meta, the microblogging service is linked to your Instagram account. Available on Android and iOS, but not yet in Europe.
