How to make a headboard ? 3 easy ideas without drilling: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

We already explained to you how to make a headboard with paint, wallpaper, a wooden pallet and even a recycled door! Today the objective is to make a headboard and then install it without having to drill into your wall. Objective met with these 3 DIY headboard ideasspotted on social networks.

How to make a headboard yourself with strips or paneling?

Start by determining the shape you want to give to your headboard, rather a rectangle, or rounded or even pointed, like here in this DIY version proposed by @kelyki_creations for bowa concept on Instagram. Take a board of MDF or light wood, position your battens in the desired shape, then attach them to the board with thin nails, with equal spacing to create a harmonious whole. Varnish or paint everything, for example you can use walnut husk to darken light wood.

How to create your own headboard and make it stand without drill ?

The easiest way to avoid having to attach your headboard to the wall is to place it on the floor and wedge it (in a sandwich) between your bed and the wall. Some commercial ones (but you can take inspiration from this principle to make your own) have 2 feet, allowing you to raise the headboard while making it lighter.

Other option: if your bed is made of wood and you make a rather light headboard (in mdf rather than wood, or with reclaimed wood from a wooden pallet), you can attach it to the bed directly using screws and hinges if necessary to reinforce.

Last technique to avoid drilling: use adhesive. On video, Jessica Grizzle shows her attaching Velcro strips to the back of her DIY headboard to hold it in place.

How to make an original headboard fabric with a wooden board

Very easy to put in place, the fabric headboard is also easy to change or refresh according to changing tastes or trends. For example, on Tik Tok Dalia (@DIY Dalia) shows that she was able to make a headboard with planks, pieces of wood and beige fabric for a soft and very designer result. For example, you can recover wood from wooden pallets to create the structure of the headboard. Then the designer assembled the planks and pieces of wood to form a bridge-shaped frame, with legs on each side and a hollow space where the bed nestles. She then padded everything with wadding and upholstery, before covering it with a woven beige fabric, super trendy in the bohemian style.

How to make a wooden headboard and pool fries: cheap DIY

Super trendy, the padded headboard can be made from an unusual object: pool fries! There are many tutorials on Tik Tok and Pinterest, here is one to get you started, offered by @movonposters.

You will need :

  • a wooden or MDF board of the desired length (width of your bed) and high enough to extend 50 cm from the top of your bed,
  • a dozen pool fries (or a protective sleeve for pipes),
  • fabric, here velvet, 1.5 times longer than the length of the board, and with a margin of 10 cm at the top and bottom,
  • a cutter,
  • spray glue,
  • a flat stapler,
  • a ruler or marouflette.

How to proceed :

  1. Cut your fries or pipes in half lengthwise. Fix them on the wooden board with the spray glue, glued to each other. Let dry.
  2. With a cutter, trim the ends (especially at the top) of the pool fries, to create a rounded or beveled edge.
  3. Turn the board over, attach the fabric to the back of one side (length) with staples. Return to the fries side, then spray glue on the fries furthest from the edge.
  4. Gradually stick the fabric, from the edge towards the inside, and between each fry, mark the separation clearly by passing your ruler. The rounded shape will thus be formed to reveal the padded shape. Repeat over the entire surface.
  5. Once all the fries are covered, staple the excess fabric to the back by folding it at the corners. You can also fix it with screws, if the fabric and wood are thick. And There you go !
