How to make an online proxy for elections?

You will not be available to vote in the next elections and you would like to make a proxy 100% online? It’s possible, as long as you meet the prerequisites. We will explain everything to you.

Even without following political news assiduously, you must have heard about the latest events that have affected the government. After the results of the European elections of June 8 and 9, 2024, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron decided to dissolve the National Assemblycausing early legislative elections. They will take place on June 30 then July 7, 2024.

But maybe you will have already gone on vacation by then. Or more generally unable to vote in person. In this case, you must go through the box proxy, that is to say authorizing someone to slip a ballot into the ballot box on your behalf, according to the instructions you have given them. Today, it is possible to complete the process entirely onlinebut it is necessary respect a certain number of conditions which we will detail for you.

Online power of attorney: the preliminary steps

If you want apply for a power of attorney 100% online, without needing to travel, you must meet several criteria. Note that with mandatory deadlines, it takes several days, so don’t wait until the last moment. Must therefore :

• Have an identity card in the new “bank card” format.
• Have a certified digital identity on the France Identity application (see the steps described below).
• Give proxy for the legislative elections of June 30 and July 7, 2024 (or June 29 and July 6 for the territories concerned). If you want a proxy for other elections or “a given period“, you will have to travel in any case.

To do certify your digital identitydo the following first:

1. Download and install the app France Identityavailable on iOS And Android.
2. Create an account if you don’t already have one, or log in.
3. Scan your “bank card” format ID card in the app.

Then comes the certification application strictly speaking :

1. From the France Identity application, initiate the certification request.
2. You should confirm your e-mail address, enter your personal code And have your ID card read by the app via NFC.
3. At the end of the process, a QR code is generated.
4. Go to a town hall among those indicated on this list, by making an appointment in advance if necessary.
5. Once there, present the QR code on your smartphone as well as your identity card.
6. Maximum 48 hours lateryou will receive an email and a notification in the France Identity app saying that the certification has been validated.

Once this is done, you can proceed to the online proxy application. Also note that certification is valid for 5 years and is equivalent to a face-to-face identity verification.

Apply for power of attorney online

The process is simple. Before starting it, make sure you have the voter card number and the date of birth of the person who will vote in your place. You can also use its marital status (birth name, all first names in order of civil status, date of birth) and their voting municipality or consulate. Afterwards :

1. Go to the website maprocuration.gouv.fr.
2. Click on Identify yourself with FranceConnect and log in.
3. The first step (I am) includes your last name, first name(s), date of birth and email address. You can modify the latter if necessary. Validate with Following.
4. Indicate where you usually vote, In France Or Abroad. In both cases, type the city or country concerned below and choose it from the list. Click on Following.
   

   

5. You must now enter the information relating to the person to whom you are giving power of attorney before continuing with Following.
6. Select now The legislative elections of June 30 and July 7, 2024. You can then specify whether the proxy will be valid for the first round, the second or both.
   

   

7. The next step is a summary of all the information you have given. If there are no errors, click I validate my proxy request.

This is where you should use your certified identity. To do this :

1. Choose the second option, Onlineto verify your identity.
2. Indicate the location in which you are located.
3. A QR code appears on the screen. Scan it with your smartphone, it authenticates you on the France Identity application which then opens.
4. In the app, enter your personal code and start reading your ID card via NFC. Attention, you only have 20 minutes to do it.

This time you’re done! You will receive an email with the subject “Your power of attorney has been validated“. For their part, the person to whom you gave it does not have to do anything special before going to the polling station on the day.

How to make a power of attorney online without the identity card in the new format?

Do you have an old format identity card? 100% online proxy is unfortunately not possiblebut you can still perform a pre-request. The procedure is exactly the same as that described previously, except that you must choose the option to move to verify your identity in the last step. Then go to any police station, gendarmerie brigade Or consulate so that the power of attorney is validated, without an appointment.

The confirmation takes the form of an email entitled “Your identity has been verified“. Wait until you receive another email stating “Your power of attorney has been validated“. Once received, inform the person who will vote on your behalf. She will simply have to show up on polling day with her identity card, as usual.
