January’s major update is just around the corner on New World. This is planned for next January 25 and many things can be prepared in advance so that you can enjoy the new content that the developers are going to offer from day one. This non-exhaustive list does not spoil the content, but it will undoubtedly be useful to you to avoid making small mistakes.
Build your Expertise
If you haven’t done so yet, it’s important to get your Expertise to 590 so that you can properly begin the advance to 600 Expertise. To do this, do not hesitate to make the elite rotations which are as follows: Malevolence in Bois Eden, Mare de l’éternité and Banc-Gaillard (Mermaid) in Eaux-Fétides, the Imperial Palace in the Reach of Nerécailles and finally the Lower/Upper Ambusti and The Entanglement/Opulence/Upper Harrow/Great Tribulation (Mine and Myrkgard) in High Chaos Mountain.
Quite often, players make announcements on the “Recruitment” or “Global” channel, so if you need a little help to build your expertise, don’t hesitate to participate in these “community events”. At any time of the day, you can join or even create a bus to any rotation.
Rift and Surge Chests may give you a little boost, but opening chests during rotations is still the most reliable method so far. Otherwise, the gypsum casts may be useful to you, but keep them!
Stock up on gypsum molding in advance
As we told you just before, if you are at 585 Expertise, do not open your casts! The devs unsealed an issue with the amount of Expertise points each piece gives once you pass tier 585. update 1.3, so save your chests for this aspect.
However, if you have already increased your Expertise to 590, already congratulations, but also keep your chests so that you can do a maximum of molding in advance to obtain dark shards to increase from 590 to 625 Expertise. The developers have also specified that they were going to remove the cooldown for making orbs, but this does not prevent them from already starting to make molds to get a little head start.

Prepare what to do with the mutation keys
Mutant Expedition Chord Orbs require items similar to regular dungeons except for one thing: Ultra Potent Gem Dust. Therefore, you will have to collect a good packet of T5 uncut gem so that you can make this little powder which will lead you directly to the mutations. Here are some tips that we can give you for these famous keys.
faults
Whatever the level, it would be good to start farming the rifts seriously to obtain altered shards. The orb for mutations requires 1 altered magnetite, which is “little”, but you still need to have the resources. Therefore, farm the faults so that you can have a few lodestones in advance.
Gems
Precious minerals like gold or platinum are ideal for obtaining T5 gems. Coupled with opening elite chests and completing 60 dungeons, you’ll have a chance of getting enough T5 gems to craft the ultra-powerful gem dust.
Faction Quests
If you haven’t already, start doing faction quests to get tokens so you can buy the asmodeum scissors. Besides, if you still haven’t passed the last reputation level of your faction, it might be time to do so to avoid getting in the way.
Do your dungeons if it’s the first time
If you’ve never entered the PTR, you probably don’t know it, but it’s important to do your dungeons for the first time before the 1.3 update. Otherwise, you won’t be able to start directly with mutations, so get a head start by doing your first time on Dynasty, Genesis and Lazarus before January 25th.

Information that some people can sometimes forget is the following: two dungeon keys can be obtained for free, without paying a single gold coin on New World.
Save Azoth Vials with Skill Chests
On PTR Patch Note 2, the devs significantly reduced the rate of Azoth Vials you will be able to obtain when opening Ability Chests. Therefore, motivate yourself to mount the trades so that you can make a small reserve of azoth before this change arrives on the live servers.
Professions such as cooking, foundry, weaving, tannery and all harvesting professions are a great way to quickly level up Skill levels. So don’t skimp on harvesting, processing resources or even manufacturing to make yourself Azoth vials.
Note: Leveling up a skill level once every 24 hours gives you a gypsum, so take advantage of it.
Spend your Winter Tokens, Gifts, and Coruscants before January 25!
The Winter Convergence Festival event ends on January 25! And the removal of the festivities will remove from your inventories all the winter marks, gifts and other “excess” coruscants. That’s why it’s important to transform them and use them in the Event Shop. If you haven’t purchased the various store items yet, now is the time. Indeed, there is nothing to say that the developers will return the event tokens to our inventories for the second edition of the winter event this December.
Don’t craft dungeon keys!
PTR patch note 3 added big changes to dungeon keys. Indeed, the cost of keys for Dynasty, Genesis and Lazarus have been reduced, so wait until January 25 before making any key. It would be more than a shame to “throw” resources out the window a few days before maintenance.
For the most curious, here are the changes that the developers will make:
- Reduced cost of Starmetal Scissors part to 150.00 from 200.00
- Reduced Orichalcum Scissors part cost to 200.00 from 400.00
- Reduced Asmodeum Scissors part cost to 250.00 from 500.00
- Eternal Heart: Reduced all elemental grain costs to craft. Now costs 10 of each grain instead of 30
- Elemental Heart: Reduced all elemental grain costs to craft. Now costs 10 of each grain instead of 30.
- Immortal Heart: Reduced all Elemental Quintessence crafting costs. Now costs 2 of each quintessence instead of 6.
- Dynasty Orb: Reduced the amount of Altered Crystal needed to craft. Now costs 1 instead of 2.
- Dynasty Orb: Reduced the amount of Nether Obsidian required for crafting. Now costs 8 instead of 10.
- Orb of Lazarus: Reduced the amount of Altered Lodestone needed to craft. Now costs 1 instead of 3.
- Genesis Orb: Reduced the amount of Altered Lodestone needed to craft. Now costs 1 instead of 2.
Craft battle trophies
For those who still haven’t set foot in mutant dungeons, know that the difficulty goes up a few notches. Therefore, start preparing your Anti-Raging, Anti-Ancient, and Anti-Altered battle trophies so you can deal much more damage. In mutations, mobs get much more hit points and deal much more damage. So, it is more than important to craft them to complete the level 10 mutation challenge.
Resources for major combat trophies have been (re)implemented in-game, so be sure to visit Baines in Edenwood for the dryad trophy, The Surgeon in Fetid Waters for elders, and Daehi in the Mountain High Chaos for the altered.
Craft pieces of equipment against mobs
As we told you just before, the monsters will inflict much more damage. Therefore, do not forget to design equipment sets so that you can inflict more damage and above all survive a little more. Certain gems will be useful to you, such as Rubies and Amethysts, because damage from nothingness or fire can complicate your ascent in the dungeon.
As a reminder, the January update should arrive on January 25th, you still have a little time to try to optimize yourself!
