How to properly declare your 2020 income

Despite the implementation of the withholding tax in 2019, the income statement remains essential. It allows the tax administration to make the final calculation of the tax payable for the year 2020, taking into account all the income and all the charges of the tax household.

If the tax payable is equal to the ongoing deductions from your income for 2020, you will not have to pay anything more this year.

If, on the contrary, the amounts withdrawn at source in 2020 were not sufficient, or if you benefited, in January, from an advance on credit and tax reduction that was too high compared to the expenses you ultimately incurred in 2020, you will have a tax balance to pay next fall. It will be taken directly from your bank account and will be added to the deductions at source made on your income (salaries, retirement pensions, etc.) for 2021.

Balance from September

If the sum to be paid is less than or equal to 300 euros, you will be deducted from the totality of the remainder due at the end of September. If it is greater than 300 euros, four withdrawals will be made from your account at the end of September, October, November and December 2021.
