how to recognize the music around you

Here’s how to activate the Now Playing feature on Google Pixel which can effectively replace Shazam.

You are seated with friends on the terrace of a café, when suddenly you realize that you like the song playing through the speakers. The problem is that by the time you take out your smartphone, launch Shazam, the song has had time to finish. All you have to do is ask a bartender maid for their playlist. Unless you have a Pixel.

We know, it looks a bit like an ad, but we have to admit, the “Listening” feature is a real argument in favor of Google phones. It also makes it possible to replace Shazam, which is, as a reminder, a property of Apple.

Listening goes even further than the famous application. It allows you to automatically search for the names of songs playing around you and to keep them in your history, all automatically. When you hear a song, you don’t even have to take out your phone as it will listen and record the title. If you take it out at that time, without even pressing a button, you will see the name of the passing title appear at the bottom of your lock screen. Magical.

How to activate listening on a Google Pixel?

Rest assured that the most suspicious, this is of course a feature that can be disabled if you wish. It is also not activated by default and you have to go to the settings to take advantage of it. Here are the steps to follow.

  • In the settings, go to the Screen section;
  • There, click on Lock screen;
  • Look for Listening;
  • There, tap the check mark at the top right.

After a quick database download, you’re all set. If you wish, a few options are available to you, such as the possibility of displaying Listening in the notification bar, on your lock screen or even accessing the history. You can also add a shortcut to this history.

Note that this feature is not exclusive to the latest Google Pixel 7. It is available on all Pixels running Android 13.
