how to regain power?

Mansplaining, manterrupting, manspreading … But what is it exactly? Rokhaya Diallo and illustrator Blachette address these (too) frequent phenomena in their first comic strip: ". Don't explain life to me, man! », Editions Marabulles. Interview.

Funny, even stripper, that's how we could sum it up Don't explain life to me, man! the new comic book by Rokhaya Diallo and illustrator Blachette. With humor and derision, the two women expose a large number of sexist everyday situations that women are regularly confronted with, whether in the private, professional or public sphere. They bring to light behaviors that are so habitual that they sometimes elicit no reaction. They are, however, unacceptable.

In the professional field

It often happens that a woman finds herself in an awkward position in her professional life. In 2020, yes again, women are sometimes considered novices in their own field of expertise, regardless of the number of diplomas obtained. Less listened to because considered less legitimate, we explain to them (the men) how they should behave, react. It is a sad reality that should not be overlooked and which has a name: mansplaining. Although their interlocutor is sometimes more experienced on a subject, some men want to question their skills and get annoyed by their reactions.

Rokhaya Diallo and Blachette's advice: be as specific as possible in order to lose the mansplaining author if he is, in fact, less knowledgeable about the subject than you are.

In the private sphere

"Didn't you come? You have to loosen up, you don't let go enough! Have you ever heard this sentence? Unfortunately, it is still very common after straight sex. If a woman isn't enjoying herself, it's not because her partner doesn't know what a clitoris is, it's because she's the one who doesn't know her body. Of course, this doesn't happen in all situations, but many women don't enjoy bed because of an inattentive partner. The woman then regularly bears the guilt of her sexual frustration.

Rokhaya Diallo and Blachette's advice: simply tell your partner that he sucks! At least there he will see that you let go.

In the public space

The man: the expert on the female body … and rules! You know, the guy who knows the magic solution to your period pain: "Take a Doliprane". Some will explain to you that if you are in pain, it is because of your lifestyle, others will tell you that you are exaggerating, or then, there are those who explain how the rules go: "A woman will have her period. once a month and for 5 days, no more, no less ”.

Rokhaya Diallo and Blachette's solution: asking for advice, emphasizing the details, talking about the color of your period, its abundance, etc. According to them, this scares more than one!
