How to remove dandruff? Advice and treatments

Your scalp is prone to itching. Do you have dandruff? Here are some natural remedies and treatments to get rid of it.

Is your hair, shirt collar or sweater strewn with little white flakes? Do you feel itchy in your scalp? Nothing serious, it is “only” dandruff. The latter result from an imbalance of the skin flora. “Dandruff is small patches of dead skin. The renewal of the skin, which normally takes place in 28 days, speeds up, and dandruff appears. They can be of two types: dry dandruff which falls on the shoulders, or oily dandruff which remains on the scalp “, explains Claire Brevard, specialist at Hairfax. But then what are the causes of dandruff? What are the best suited treatments? Are there any grandmother’s remedies to eliminate them? Experts give us their advice.

Why do some people get dandruff and others don’t?

“Dandruff can appear following the use of cosmetology products unsuitable for the scalp. Stress, fatigue, tobacco, alcohol, too rich a diet, too frequent use of the hair dryer, hormonal imbalance … are all factors that can promote the appearance of dandruff “, indicates the specialist at Hairfax.

What are the different types of hair dandruff?

There are dry dandruff and oily dandruff.

  • Dry dandruff usually affects dry, normal hair. They are very common and are linked to dryness of the skin. These are the dandruff found on shoulders and clothing.
  • Oily dandruff is linked to a disruption of the hair’s life cycle. Unlike dry dandruff, it sticks to the scalp.

How to treat dandruff?

Just because you have dandruff doesn’t mean you have to stop washing your hair, on the contrary … You should, however, use a shampoo suited to your problem. In the acute phase, apply anti-dandruff shampoo three times a week for a minimum of one month. Leave the product on for a few minutes before rinsing your hair. You can then do a second shampoo with neutral pH. Note that the treatment is done on a case-by-case basis. Some people will see improvement after a month, others will have to continue it for longer.

To fully understand the origin of the problem, Claire Brevard recommends carrying out a hair assessment to define habits and lifestyle, the products used but also the type of dandruff. Hairfax offers a preparatory serum before shampooing, a suitable washing treatment and a lotion are recommended. “The effects of this type of treatment protocol are visible from the first applications. In order for the result to be lasting, it is advisable to continue the protocol for a minimum of one month. The use of washing care remains recommended, thereafter, to avoid the reappearance of dandruff “. Note, however, that even treated, dandruff tends to come back. There are, in fact, no miracle cures to overcome them definitively.
