How do I reset an Amazon Echo 1st Generation speaker?
The operation takes less than a minute, here’s how:
- Simultaneously press the Microphone button and turn the wheel as if to lower the volume.
- Keep pressing until the light ring turns orange and turns blue.
- You can release the buttons and wait for the light ring to turn off and on again.
Your 1st generation Amazon Echo speaker is then in configuration mode and you can configure it.
How do I reset an Amazon Echo 2nd generation speaker?
For the 2nd generation, the operation is almost the same.

- Simultaneously press the Microphone and Volume Down buttons.
- Hold them down while the light ring changes colors several times.
- The Amazon Echo restarts and when the ring turns orange and a ringtone sounds, you can release the buttons.
Your speaker is reset, you just have to start the configuration process.
How to reset an Amazon Echo 3rd and 4th generation speaker?
Amazon remains very consistent in its procedures for resetting its connected speakers, here is how to do it for the last two generations.

- Push the button Action for about 25 seconds.
- You will then notice that the light ring flashes orange and then turns off.
- Always hold your press on the Action button and wait for the ring to turn back on and turn blue and then orange.
You can release the button, your device has gone into configuration mode.
You just have to restart the installation process to start from a blank base with your Amazon Echo speaker.
