How to reset your iPhone before selling it?

After setting up your new smartphone, don’t forget your old iPhone!

Plan a few minutes to reset your old iPhone: you will need to erase your personal data, your applications and disconnect your iCloud account and your Apple ID, especially if you plan to sell or give away the device. You don’t want your data ending up in the hands of a stranger, do you? Also, if you leave Find My enabled, you won’t be able to sell or give away your iPhone.

The good thing is that all this only takes a few minutes. This is the way to go.

How to reset your iPhone

With iOS 15, resetting your iPhone is even easier than before.

To start, go to Settings > General then scroll to the bottom of the page, to Transfer or Reset iPhone.

You then have the option of preparing your iPhone to set up a new device. If it’s already done, select Erase content and settings at the bottom of the screen. Enter your passcode when prompted.

The next screen details all the information that will be erased from your device and informs you that any cards, keys or tickets from the Wallet app will be deleted.

iCloud Backup

Press the blue button Continue. You’ll see an iCloud backup screen appear which, if you let it run its course, will make a final backup of your iPhone before it’s erased. If you’ve already set up your new iPhone, you can skip this screen. Otherwise, let it finish.

On the next screen, you will be asked to enter your Apple ID and iCloud account password. This is the step that allows you to deactivate the geolocation service. After entering your password, press the button Disable in the upper right corner.

If you feel like nothing is happening after clicking Disablewait a few seconds.

Finally, you will see another pop-up window with a button labeled Erase iPhone in red. If you press this button, your iPhone will restart several times and once it does, all your information will be erased. You’ll know it’s done when you see a welcome screen.
