How to use Siri to take photos with your iPhone

I have been looking for a long time for a way to activate my iPhone camera with my voice to take pictures. If you say “Siri, take a picture”, Siri activates the camera, but doesn’t take any pictures.

Yet we are in 2023, in the era of hands-free controls, and I still have to press a button?

Surely there must be a better solution!

How to activate voice command to take a photo with Siri?

To harness the power of Siri to capture your memories, you’re going to need the iOS Shortcuts app.

To enable this feature of Siri, follow these steps:

  1. open the app Shortcuts on your iPhone;
  2. Press on Gallery to explore all available shortcuts;
  3. find the shortcut Say cheese (in English) ;
  4. click on the shortcut;
  5. select Add this shortcut to integrate it with your Siri commands;
  6. to customize this shortcut, tap the three dots on the shortcut. For example, you can change the camera, or customize the sentence that controls the shot.

Take photos with Siri

Now, to take a photo, all you have to do is say: “Hey Siri, Say cheese” (or any other phrase you have configured) and let Siri trigger for you.

Note that on first use, the iPhone will ask for permission to save photos to your photo gallery. Grant it access, so your snaps will be saved automatically in the future.
