If it has long been a basic reserved for male wardrobe, the tuxedo is now ubiquitous in the wardrobe of women. Comfortable and elegant, the costume has become an indispensable fashion that accompanies us both at work and in the evening.
The tuxedo, the story of a controversial play
In 1966, Yves Saint Laurent presented for the very first time his version of the female tuxedo. Daring, even cheeky for the time. By giving power to women in jackets and pants, the French designer is convinced that this exclusively male piece also has its place in the female wardrobe. "For a woman, the tuxedo is an essential garment with which she will always feel fashionable because it is a stylish garment and not a fashion garment. ", says Saint Laurent about this garment that revolutionizes the genre and upsets the fundamental codes of fashion.
Too innovative and daring, he was initially shunned by the haute couture clientele. But in September 1966, when Yves Saint Laurent inaugurated his first ready-to-wear boutique in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, on the left bank, Parisian women flocked in search of the famous tuxedo accessible at 680 francs. "From there everything goes very quickly, the haute couture customers abandon their preconceptions, they understand the power of seduction that they can develop with this garment, the look and the strength that it gives off " , explains Pierre Bergé about this unexpected success. Adopted by all women, the tuxedo definitely enters the women's wardrobe.
How to wear a tuxedo?
Since its appearance in 1966, the tuxedo has constantly reinvented itself. Today, it adapts to all styles by being infinite! Satin, in linen, it is sometimes adorned with sequins or patterns, is worn black or colored, close to the body or oversize, with sneakers or stilettos.
In its original version, the tuxedo is worn dark or white and next to the skin. With its fitted and buttoned jacket, we dare topless for a chic and sensual look. If you are not comfortable, you can add a lace triangle. During the day, however, we prefer to slip a shirt that you will take care of blousing in the pants or a tight top that will enhance your figure.
For spring-summer, the tuxedo is pop. More funky than its classic version but just as elegant, the colorful costume is unanimous with women, and even more when the beautiful days arrive! In terms of material, linen will be perfect for facing the heat of summer. If the pants are willing to shorten to reveal the ankles, it is also worn oversize (but curved at the waist) for maximum comfort.
This season, women like to wear a tuxedo in its oversized version. With a pair of sneakers, they give us a trendy streetwear look. To emphasize the silhouette, we do not hesitate to belt our suit jacket, it's ultra trendy at the moment! The little fashion tip to prick at the most seasoned fashionsitas: tighten the bottom of pants that are too loose with sandals with laced heels.
