Soaked tampons, blood splatters on the floor and bloody hands are just a few of the motifs of the photographer Franziska Lange. With her photo project, which began as her bachelor thesis, the photography student wants to show what menstruation really looks like. The heart project came about because the Berlin woman’s communication about her menstrual period is often much too negative. She could not find any authentic picture material anywhere either. On Instagram, she is now building a documentary period picture archive and calling on all women to actively participate with pictures of their menstruation. “How we bleed” stands for more understanding, more open communication between the sexes and less shame about menstruation.
