In its compact chassis, the large screen is the real added value of this PC which hits the mark during presentations to clients.

Autonomy, ergonomics and power… Here is what I ask of my laptop to work optimally. Until now, I was using another 13-inch HP model which served as a point of comparison, although smaller. Its format is very thin and it is easily transportable, but the battery hardly lasts more than 4 hours. But I need 6 to 8 hours of autonomy. With the HP Envy x360, the autonomy is excellent, I’ve never come to the end of it! I think we are above 6 hours with the wifi activated and good light. The battery saver is very effective in optimizing battery life!

I measured the charging time from 0 to 50%, and it took 30 min. Ultra-fast charging, I knew it for mobile phones, and that’s the argument that made me choose my current smartphone. So, for me, this fast charge is a key purchase criterion. To be honest, I was still embarrassed with my old PC arriving at a customer and having to plug it in. From now on, no need to beg for a catch; I can start my presentation right away and even continue with a second client, with confidence. In backup, I have an external battery that is compatible with this computer. Another good point!

In terms of the chassis and ergonomics, I also had some nice surprises! For example, since the HP Envy x360 is a 15-inch model, I thought I’d have to pull out an old laptop bag from 10 years ago. Finally, the computer entered my current bag planned for a 13.3 inch. The edges are thin and the chassis is very compact.

The ergonomics are impeccable in every way. The touchpad is sensitive in all positions, the touchscreen too. Even vertically, in a classic position, you can point and work with your fingertips on the screen. And when there is free time, you can put it in tent mode and take the opportunity to watch a video or do e-learning.

In its compact chassis, the large screen is the real added value of this PC which hits the mark during presentations to clients. For the weight, it feels like wearing a 13 inch. The Envy x360 is really light and it’s very pleasant. Personally, I did without the charger, so no additional weight. The hinges breathe solidity and I did not hesitate to modify the position of the screen in all directions. The tablet mode allows you to read and sign documents very naturally with your customers, we really have the perfect tool for anyone who wants to work in zero paper mode.

To test this PC, I had to backup my data. I simply transferred them with a USB-C key into the HP Envy x360. It’s really handy having 1TB of storage and super-fast USB-C ports. No more hassle with on-the-go backup disks.

Finally, for the record, I had to do a lot of calculation work on a database to prepare my files. I started the process in the early evening, and usually it takes 2-3 hours. But thanks to the power of the Intel Core i7 processor, which was able to take all the energy necessary to do its calculations since I had removed the battery saver, the database update only took a half hour !

Undeniably, the size and quality of the screen provide comfort for working outside the office.

My professional activity regularly takes me on the main roads and forces me to work in places that are not always very suitable. I have already tried several solutions to work on the move. This new HP was an opportunity to test a new configuration.

Undeniably, the size and quality of the screen provide comfort for working outside the office. Indeed, the screen itself is very pleasant to use. For some time, I got used to using a tablet more mobile than the PC. However, there are limitations such as screen size which makes working on multiple documents cumbersome. Finally, this Envy x360 is a good compromise.

On the other hand, its large size and its very beautiful luminosity mean that all the people who pass by or are seated with you in a TGV car can see what you are doing. So I would advise professionals who need a minimum of discretion to equip themselves with a confidentiality filter or to opt for an HP model that integrates it directly.

I often find myself working in cramped spaces such as in court where lawyers generally have a very small space to consult their files. You have to deal with a sometimes voluminous paper file and the PC which takes up a certain amount of space.

Thus, a 15.6-inch model is not necessarily ideal, or else I would have had to use a stylus and the PC in tablet mode, I think that would have been much more practical!

Ditto, during a meeting on a construction site, without a stylus, we miss out on smooth operation in tablet mode. The purchase of the compatible HP pen will therefore be to be considered for future users.

HP Envy x360- power and mobility

For the positive points, it should be noted that the touchpad is quite easy to use and the presence of conventional USB ports allows the use of a security key without resorting to an accessory. It starts up quickly, but depending on the lighting and the tilt of the screen, the Windows Hello function is sometimes slow to detect the face. Personally, I would have liked to have had a fingerprint reader to make things easier.

For very mobile use, the PC has shown its limits. That said, having a laptop computer, larger than a tablet and powerful on the move, provides appreciable working comfort.

Once plugged in and with a stable connection, everything is super smooth. I processed a town planning file with maps in A0 format in PDF and plans without any difficulty with several files opened in parallel, which the computers on which I work today refuse and which proves to be unmanageable on my Tablet !

I used the computer on a train trip three weeks ago. I used it in tablet mode to watch videos. If not its weight, perhaps a little heavy, it is perfect for this type of nomadic use. Being able to fold it saves space and the touch screen is very responsive, more so than the pad which sometimes has a latency time.

The screen, of more than correct size, compensates and explains the weight. Transported in a satchel with shoulder strap, the latter is no longer a concern.

Autonomy is excellent. I didn’t need to charge it during the 3 hour drive spent watching videos/playing games. Once back home, I recharged the computer very quickly thanks to the fast charging technology. Ideal for recharging the device between two trains, for example!

Finally, the ignition is also very fast.

In summary

This week, we asked the testers to evaluate the HP Envy x360 convertible PC in “nomadic” use: on the train, on the move, in appointments… The result is that the PC is practical, suitable for mobile situations and offers enough autonomy (the advertised autonomy is 8 h 30 min). The testers appreciated the compromise it offers between a very mobile, ultralight and compact tool, and a powerful, reliable PC with a comfortable screen.
