Slightly out of step with some competitors, HP is sticking to its usual schedule to unveil two new gaming laptops : the Omen 16 and the Victus 15. The first aims for an excellent level of performance without real compromise, the second seeks to offer a good balance between equipment and price.

During a briefing with the press, HP presented a new version of its Omen 16, as well as a new Victus, 15 resuming almost identically the chassis of the Victus 16 launched last year and tested by our cares. We cannot therefore say that the American manufacturer is reshuffling the cards with these two new products. The first nevertheless integrates the latest components from Intel, AMD and NVIDIA to seriously improve performance compared to its predecessor.

HP Omen 16: a good layer of power and more

Since it is the best equipped, let’s start with it: the Omen 16 2022 takes up the basics of the 2021 model, its chassis and most of its options… but switching to Intel Alder Lake and AMD Ryzen 6000 processors.

In an unchanged envelope (369 x 248 x 22.5 mm), HP manages to integrate up to a Ryzen 7 6800H, or a Core i7-12700H. The two chips are both coupled to a maximum of 32 GB of RAM (via two DDR5 modules at 4800 MHz). Graphics-wise, HP offers the RTX 3050, 3050 Ti, 3060, or 3070 Ti to choose from, with a maximum TGP of 140W for the RTX 3060 and 150W for the RTX 3070 Ti. If you prefer to turn to AMD, a Radeon RX 6650M is also available as an option.

For the rest, the storage is again based on a 1 TB SSD in PCIe Gen 4, while three display options are once again available: QHD / 165 Hz compatible G-Sync, Full HD 144 Hz, or Full HD 60 Hz. In any case, we will stay on 16.1-inch 16:9 IPS panels.

On the other hand, HP is slightly changing the connectivity of its Omen 16. The device now has two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports in addition to three USB-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 output, an SD card reader, a headphone jack and an RJ-45 input. The webcam of the Omen 16 remains for its part in 720p, but its trackpad grows slightly, and we now benefit from a sensor allowing to automatically adjust the brightness of the screen.

In the immediate future, HP announces its Omen 16 at a starting price of 1,199 dollars across the Atlantic. The machine will also arrive on the market this summer, so we should be able to test it soon on Clubic. We contacted HP France to find out more about the pricing of the device in our latitudes.

Victus 15: HP’s affordable gaming laptop gets more compact

Also expected this summer, starting at $799.99, the Victus 15 is much more modest in terms of components. Also available in AMD or Intel versions, the machine is strangely content with an old generation Ryzen 5 5600H on the AMD side, or a Core i5-12500H (Alder Lake) on the Intel side. Depending on the processor chosen, there is a Radeon RX 6500M or an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, which in either case will limit this new Victus 15 to relatively low-power games, or to competitive titles.

Always in the rank of compromises, the device ignores the new DDR5 standard to settle for 8 GB of RAM in DDR4 at 3,200 MHz (via two SO-DIMM modules). Storage is also limited to 512 GB of SSD, although it will always be possible to expand this capacity later. In terms of display, no madness either, with a 15.6-inch Full HD / 60 Hz IPS panel on the AMD version of the device. The Intel version will benefit from an identical screen, but capable of going up to 144 Hz this time.

The connection of the device is on the other hand quite complete, with a USB-C port, two USB-A ports, an RJ-45 input, an SD reader, a headphone jack and an HDMI 2.1 output. HP finally mentions a 70 Wh battery and a 720p webcam. We also find the same colors and the same chassis as on the Victus 16, but in necessarily a little more compact measurements (15.6 inches here, against 16.1 inches opposite).

We do not know for the moment the price placement of this new Victus 15 in France, but this article will be updated when HP France will come back to us.
