HP launches a monthly subscription for its printers, and it’s not advantageous

The monthly subscription is a popular economic model, whether to benefit from SVoD with Netflix or gaming with Xbox Game Pass. HP is also getting in on the action with its All-In platform, which offers customers the option to print a limited number of sheets every month, with a two-year commitment and fees if the quota is exceeded.

After having mentioned it in January through its general director, Enrique Lorres, HP is now taking the plunge. The company is launching its All-In program, described as “an all-inclusive printing subscription that offers the ultimate in convenience and provides the expert support you need to keep your printing running smoothly”. The two-year commitment is activated after 30 days of subscription.

The manufacturer is launching three formulas with several printer models:

• HP Envy starting at $6.99/month
• HP Envy Inspire starting at $8.99/month
• HP OfficeJet Pro starting at $12.99/month

At this price, especially for the HP Envy printer which can easily be found for less than €70 on sale, we advise you to avoid the HP All-In subscription. On paper – no pun intended – this service is not very advantageous.

After two years, the subscription can actually turn out to be very expensive with a total price above that of the selected printer. And to get rid of All-In before the imposed period, you will also have to pay termination fees.

Additional costs if exceeded

This is not the worst since it concerns prices “from”. For example, the $6.99/month HP Envy printer limits you to a paltry 20 pages per month. Once this quota is exceeded, it will cost you $1 for 10 to 15 additional pages. There are also different options, including $22.99/month for 300 pages or $35.99 for 700 monthly business pages.

In the event of a breakdown, HP offers 24-hour support. If the printer no longer works, the company sends a replacement model. Shipping labels for the rest are supported, even for cartridges. A good argument, but not convincing enough to endorse All-In.

For the moment, the platform is not available in France, only in the United States.
