Change of scenery for the HPI series tonight on TF1. After the events of the first episode of season 3, which aired last week and was once again a huge ratings hit, Morgane (Audrey Fleurot) finds herself in prison, accused of a murder she did not commit.
The colorful heroine of HPI tries to adapt somehow to the prison environment, having to deal with a cellmate she knows well, while trying to solve the investigation from behind bars. Because with the help of Karadec (Mehdi Nebbou) and the rest of the DIPJ, she must succeed in proving her innocence. Easier said than done when everything seems to accuse him…
Was the second episode of season 3 of HPI shot in a real prison?
Entitled “18 carats”, this second episode of season 3 of HPI, released last summer, was obviously not shot in a real working prison, which would have involved far too many obstacles in terms of organization and security for production, actors and technical teams.
TF1 and the production therefore set out to find a disused place to host the filming of the many scenes of the episode taking place in a prison environment. And their choice finally fell on the former Maison d’Arrêt de Compiègne, which has not been in operation since the 1990s.
It is in this former prison that the HPI teams thus filmed, over two days, July 17 and 18, 2022, the exterior shots, the scenes taking place at the reception and in the passageways, and the sequences within the inner courtyard of the remand center, with Audrey Fleurot and her acting partners (including Myra Tyliann from Plus belle la vie who plays an inmate).
But this new episode of HPI, broadcast tonight at 9:10 p.m. on TF1, also contains several scenes in the visiting room, during which Morgane Alvaro talks with Karadec, but also with Théa (Cypriane Gardin) and Eliott (Noé Vandevoorde), her children, and his ex Ludovic (Cédric Chevalme).
These, as well as the sequences taking place in Morgane’s cell, were filmed in the studio, in Lille, on July 22 and 25. And the result is stunning, as we have the impression of being plunged, we too, into the prison hell that the heroine of the series is going through.

Morgane Alvaro in Orange Is The New Black mode
For this new season of HPI, which follows the long-awaited kiss exchanged between Morgane and Karadec, the authors of the TF1 series wanted to focus on the consequences for the heroine of this kiss and Karadec’s refusal to go further away. By going not towards a Morgane who settles down, but on the contrary towards a Morgane who always goes further in excess.
“We can see what happens when Morgane goes too far, without anyone to frame her. It’s a season where she flirts a lot with morality, and it’s really interesting to push the character towards that”explained to us a few weeks ago, at Séries Mania, Alice Chegaray-Breugnot and Julien Anscutter, the HPI collection directors.
And when Morgane goes too far, she therefore finds herself in prison, as in episode 2 of season 3 broadcast tonight. “Orange Is The New Black It didn’t seem bad for a redhead”, says Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, who also co-created the series. “We wanted to see her in a prison environment, we found it rather funny. And on a double episode like that, it was great to have her working solo in the first episode, and in the second the whole team coming together for her. It’s a pretty neat reversal.”.
“And it’s true that, compared to Morgane and Karadec, we wondered how to continue after this kiss”continues Julien Anscutter. “For us it is important that things always move forward. We can no longer do as in X Files at the time, whole seasons on just looks, and when it progresses we return to the status quo”.
“But, at the same time, Morgane and Karadec are never more interesting than when there is conflict or obstacles. And there, the first scene they share in season 3 is a scene with a window between them because they are in a visiting room. There is something electric, even in the acting of the actors. Because we were looking for situations so that it was never plan-plan “.
