Did you know ? HTC reinvests in the mobile phone market smartphones since last summer. But if its U23 Pro has gone unnoticed to say the least, the Taiwanese brand hopes to transform the test with its successor.
If the mention of a certain HTC One M8 causes emotional tingling in your temples, it is very likely that the current news will put you in a good mood. But if we don’t expect the brand to revolutionize the market, it has a real card to play in the mid-range segment.
HTC plays the neo-retro card
Back from the dead after three years of silence, HTC is going at its own pace to reinvest in a market in which it did very well last decade – at least in its first half.
As you can imagine: the HTC U24 Pro is not a particularly original smartphone. Like so many others, it opts for a 6.8-inch OLED screen refreshed at 120 Hz. But one of its particularities (no doubt a necromancy skill developed during his hiatus) is to embed both a slot for SD card and a 3.5 mm jack. Don’t laugh, this won’t be so common in 2024.
Not to spoil anything, HTC’s mid-range smartphone is looming with an absolutely enticing technical sheet. There we find a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 (the same as the very good Motorola Edge 50 Pro), which delights with full 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3; 12 GB of RAM; a 4600 mAh battery rechargeable at 60W wired and 15 W wireless, and even IP67 certification! For less than €550, it’s very generous.
Finally, the photo part is not left out. The HTC U24 Pro is equipped with a duo of 50-megapixel sensors: a stabilized wide-angle (ƒ/1.88) and telephoto lens (ƒ/2.0), and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (ƒ/2.2). At the front, there’s a 50-megapixel (ƒ/2.4) self-portrait module.
HTC U24 Pro: price and availability
The HTC U24 Pro will be marketed in July at a single price of €549 and in a single color, navy blue. It has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, expandable via an SD card slot – an absolute rarity these days.
The smartphone will be delivered running Android 14. It is still unclear how long it will be updated. We will try to clarify this point during an upcoming test on Clubic.
