The phone, which was spotted twice in the hands of Huawei’s consumer division head Richard Yu, comes just after Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold was unveiled.
A smartphone with a triple screen system
This smartphone stands out for its triple screen system, using a double hinge mechanism to create three separate sections. Two of the screens fold inwards, while the third unfolds outwards, offering an estimated 10 inches of internal display surface when unfolded.
The leaked images reveal a circular camera module with a ring design, positioned at the center of the device’s back, reminiscent of the setup of other foldable smartphones like the OnePlus Open or the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro. A black colorway was seen in both public appearances of the prototype.
Despite its technical complexity, the smartphone displays remarkable finesse. Its side edges, with a shiny appearance, suggest the use of a metal frame.
A Kirin 9010 SoC would be there
In terms of specs, rumors point to the integration of the Kirin 9 series SoC, potentially the Kirin 9010, which could also power Huawei’s upcoming Mate 70 lineup. The front-facing camera is said to be housed in a punch-hole cutout on the left-most display.
This technological leap, however, could come at a considerable cost to consumers. Sources suggest a launch price of around ¥29,000, or about $4,000, which would make it one of the most expensive consumer smartphones on the market.
The repeated appearance of this prototype in the hands of a senior Huawei executive suggests an imminent commercialization, potentially positioning the brand as a pioneer in the triple-folding smartphone segment.
