Huawei does not give up against the American embargo

The founder of Huawei claims that his group has been able to replace 13,000 components in its supply lines to limit breakage in the face of the American embargo from which it has been sanctioned since 2019.

Should I remind him? Huawei is under a US embargo. Suspected of supporting espionage activities for China, the group can no longer work with American companies. It also sees its supply lines very strongly affected by Washington’s sanctions. A difficult context which strongly limits the appeal of its products intended for the general public. The Huawei Mate 50 Pro, for example, doesn’t have Google apps or the Play Store or even 5G connectivity.

Despite all this, Huawei intends to show that it will not give up anytime soon. Thus, the founder of the firm, Ren Zhengfei, split a new speech. This was transcribed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and relayed by Reuters. We thus learn that, over the past three years, the company has already replaced ” 13,000 components by Chinese substitutes “and reshaped”4000 printed circuit boards for its products“.

A “stabilized” production

In other words, according to Ren Zhengfei, Huawei has already taken steps to revitalize its supply chain to circumvent the American blockade preventing it from using key suppliers. According to the entrepreneur, the production of printed circuits would have evenstabilized“. The agencyReutersstates that it cannot verify this information.

However, it is specified that Ren Zhengfei made these remarks during an interview with Chinese technology experts on February 24. Jiao Tong University published the report nearly a month later on March 17.

A reinforced embargo

This speech comes as the United States embargo against Huawei tightened further in 2023, resulting in the loss of the last American partners of the Chinese group. At the same time, relations between Washington and Beijing remain very tense.

Note in passing that Huawei continues to release products – such as the very atypical Huawei Watch Buds – and remains a major player in the telecom market. Recently, the group’s news has been marked by information around the Huawei P60 Pro and a controversy related to MWC 2023.
