For some time now, we have seen models with particularly original designs appearing on the wireless earphone market. Like the Shokz OpenFit, the JVC HA-NP50T or the 1 More Fit SE, these headphones want to take the best of both worlds between traditional wireless headphones and bone conduction headphones.

This is precisely the approach adopted by Huawei which announced its new Huawei FreeClip headphones this Tuesday. Behind these strange looking earphones are in fact earphones which are positioned around the ear, on the side, and allow them to produce quality sound without obstructing the ear canal.

Concretely, Huawei’s FreeClips are composed of three distinct elements: the acoustic ball, in which the transducer is housed and which is molded so as to adapt to most ear pinnae, the “comfort bean» which holds the back of the ear, in the shape of a bean, and the “C-Bridge» which connects the two elements with a sensor to automatically adjust the clamping force. Huawei has also designed its headphones so that you can swap left and right without worrying about which ear they should be placed in.

For sound transmission, the Chinese manufacturer indicates that it has used a double magnet speaker, for a more powerful volume – logical, since the transducers are further away from the eardrums than on traditional headphones – as well as an inversion of sound waves, supposed to offer a “intelligent sound adjustment“.

An open format to hear outside sounds

The whole point of the Huawei FreeClip lies in their open format, without passive isolation, which will allow you to listen to your music while remaining aware of your environment. A particularly sought-after use, particularly for outdoor sports. As such, the FreeClips are also IP54 certified and can therefore resist sweat or rain.

In terms of autonomy, the manufacturer promises up to 8 hours of use of the headphones alone and up to 36 hours with the charging case.

The Huawei FreeClips are available from this Tuesday in two colors – black or purple – at a price of 200 euros.
