  • Huawei is still suffering from US embargoes.
  • For example, the group is not allowed to use Google software or 5G.
  • A clever idea could now enable the P50 to access 5G.

Huawei has suffered some major setbacks in recent years. About two years ago, the US authorities imposed sanctions on the Chinese manufacturer and thus banned the use of US technology. In addition to 5G, this also includes Google services such as the Google Play Store. The reason for this was allegedly industrial espionage and wiretapping of users, although there is no evidence of this to date.

In many comparisons, the manufacturer’s smartphones now perform worse because 5G technology is missing. This is now standard on almost all top smartphones. However, a new idea could now be the solution for the Chinese group.

According to a report by ITHome, Huawei is currently working on a case for the Huawei P50, which should enable the smartphone to access the 5G network. A leaked image is said to show this case.

Motorola already offered a similar gadget in 2018 for the Motorola Moto Z3. This model was initially also designed for 4G networks, but was then able to access the 5G network with the help of a so-called 5G Moto-Mod. At that time, the technology was rather poor and quite complicated to use. It remains to be seen whether the Huawei case will perform better.
