The Union wants to request the delivery of Taurus weapons to Ukraine again in the Bundestag this week. CSU General Secretary Huber is hoping for deviations from the federal government’s course. Even if their voting behavior is unlikely to change the Chancellor’s no vote.

The Union wants the federal government to agree to the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. That’s why she submitted a corresponding application to the Bundestag. The application is now four months old, says CSU General Secretary Martin Huber to Markus Lanz on ZDF. Members of the Bundestag are scheduled to vote on it again on Thursday morning. But even if a majority were to vote in favor of the Taurus deliveries, the federal cabinet would have to decide, and it would have to do so unanimously. This looks bad at the moment.

“We are calling on the federal government to deliver Taurus,” says Huber at Lanz. “Since Ukraine asked if they could get the Taurus systems, we have been supporting it.” That’s not entirely true, as Lanz proves. In an interview in August, CSU boss Söder categorically rejected the Taurus deliveries. However, experts still assumed a victorious major offensive by the Ukrainian army.

“The main problem at the moment is that we have a chancellor who serves Putin’s narrative,” Huber continued. Scholz expressed distrust in Ukraine when dealing with the Taurus weapons. “In this respect, it is already serving Putin’s narrative when he says that Ukraine is not reliable.” In addition, Scholz said the untruth. Contrary to what was claimed, no soldiers are needed in Ukraine to operate the Taurus cruise missiles.

Huber does not believe that the CDU/CSU parties will get through with their proposal. However, he hopes that all those who support the Taurus delivery will agree. “Then there must be a lot of people from the traffic light coalition who vote with us.”

Criticism of the Pope

Huber also criticizes Pope Francis’ statements. In an interview with a Swiss television station, he called on Ukraine to have the courage to raise the white flag. “In this case, I would say that the dogma of infallibility obviously does not exist,” says Huber. It is clear that Ukraine has been attacked. Russia is waging a brutal war of aggression, which is why it is the task to support Ukraine with arms deliveries. Our democracy and our freedom are being defended in Ukraine, says Huber. “In this respect, these statements by Pope Francis are absolutely incomprehensible to me.”
