huge sales but the new-gen version in trouble?

Unlike Cyberpunk 2077 sales, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt sales are doing extremely well. But should we worry about the postponement of the free update?

CD Projekt Red does the counts and the results don’t look as good from game to game. While Cyberpunk 2077 is paying a high price for its many problems, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is still a huge hit with gamers.

The Witcher represents more than half of the sales of the series

The Witcher Geralt of Rivia is more popular than ever, even 7 years after its release. As of April 14, 2022, over 40 million The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt games have been sold worldwide, all platforms combined. A clearly incredible figure since to date, total franchise sales peak at over 65 million. We can see how TW3 is a pivotal episode.

A much more engaging performance than that achieved by Cyberpunk 2077 and its disappointingly large numbers. Can The Witcher 3 still gain traction and increase sales? Surely, when the next-gen update will be available.

The PS5 and Xbox Series version postponed, a problem?

The free PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S update will therefore (still) be late compared to the initial schedule. A bad omen? No, and CD Projekt Red denied it after reading some articles online.

There is a point I wanted to address regarding the launch of TW3 on the new generation of consoles. I looked at the headlines on the internet and one of them called out to me “The Witcher 3 next-gen delayed indefinitely”. It makes development seem like a nightmare. I just want to point out that this is not a fact.. There have been a lot of hints that the update will launch in June next year. This is absolutely not true. The patch will be completed internally. No one is saying the postponement is monumental.

The term “indefinitely” does not come from CD Projekt Red, but “until further notice”, yes. The art of playing on words? To wait, there remains the netflix series which formalized its season 3 with a synopsis.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
