Hugo Weaving: That's why he rejected "Matrix 4" offer

Bad news for die-hard "Matrix" fans: Hugo Weaving (59, "The Lord of the Rings – The Companions") alias Agent Smith will not play a role in the fourth part of the sci-fi adventure. The actor revealed this in an interview with "Time Out". The reason: weaving simply doesn't have time.

"I won't be there. It's a shame, but I got the offer for 'The Visit' and then I got the offer for 'Matrix'. So I knew it was going to happen, but I had no appointments left," explained the 59 year old. "I was hoping to be able to do both (…), but I finally held back to take on a role in 'The Visit'."

"The Visit" is a play that will be performed at the London National Theater from January 31st to May 13th.

Keanu Reeves returns

There is still consolation for "Matrix" fans. Back in August last year, film producer Toby Emmerich (56) confirmed that the actors Keanu Reeves (55) and Carrie-Anne Moss (52) would appear again as Neo and Trinity. There is no official release date for "Matrix 4" yet.
