Love has no age, and Hugues Aufray has just proven it again. Saturday September 2, 2023, he said “yes” for the second time in his life, at 94 years old. More than seven decades after his first marriage, the famous singer married his longtime companion, Murielle Megevand, in a ceremony celebrated at the church of Saint-Vigor in Marly-Le-Roi, in the Yvelines. Renaud, Jean-Luc Reichmann, Dave… many personalities were present. If this union comes less than a year after the death of his wife Hélène Faure – the mother of his two daughters, with whom he had been married since 1951 – Hugues Aufray shared Murielle Megevand’s life for 18 years already. In fact, the artist had chosen not to divorce, despite the separation from his first wife.
“I hate the word divorce, it tears at my throat. You can’t reject someone who gave you magnificent children, grandchildren, who made sacrifices for you. We cannot throw it away overnight because divorce is still something very humiliating for the one who is abandoned”he explained on the show I love you, etc.. in September 2020. Thus, over the years, Hugues Aufray has often been accused of polygamy. Refusing, however, to speak of a “double life” with regard to his story with Murielle Megevand, he did not hesitate to put the dots on the “i” several times. “My wife can’t follow me. I am a normal man, with an important professional activity and therefore, it is true, I have a young partner. I’m not lying to either of them. I have a clear conscience”he declared for example in 2015, in the columns of the Swiss newspaper The morning.

It was in 1995 that Murielle Megevand met the interpreter of Santianowhile traveling by train. “I was on the TGV and I saw this young girl. She asked me for an autograph. When I saw her, I asked her if she worked in cinema and she told me ‘no’. I told her to come to Paris to pursue a career as an actress. The years passed and finally, she came and then she stayed”, thus told Hugues Aufray in Looking forward to Sundayin April 2022. Also present on Michel Drucker’s set, his partner – 45 years his junior – then added: “He’s a great man, he’s very positive all the time, in everything he does. He has already painted and sculpted me. Actually, I was never bored with HuguesI’ve known him since 1995 and I’ve never been bored with you.” However, it took them a few years to fall in love, since they have been officially a couple since 2005.

Hugues Aufray and Murielle Megevand live together in Marly-Le-Roiin the Yvelines department, since 2020. After selling his family home in Marnes-La-Coquette, the singer moved with his young companion to the former home of the sculptor Aristide Maillol, whom he likes to call her “House of happiness”. The two lovers live there with their cats, and have forged links with their neighbors, as Hugues Aufray explained to Parisian at the time. It is also in their city of residence that they got married, first at the town hall for the civil union, then at the church for the religious ceremony.
