Human remains were discovered in several old suitcases that had been auctioned in New Zealand.
By buying a collection of old suitcases, this New Zealand family never imagined making such a discovery. Manukau County police said in a statement last week that they are investigating the bizarre case for homicide. “From what we know so far, we can say that the people who received the suitcases are not involved. The police have called on their collaboration and are supporting them,” it read. For the time being, the authorities indicated that the priority was to identify the remains and then to enter into contact with the relatives of the victim or victims. “A post-mortem examination is carried out” in order to establish the causes of death but “due to the nature of this discovery, it could take time”.
A strong smell
A neighbor told the ‘New Zealand Herald’ that the family had discovered the remains by opening the suitcases which were on trailers. The neighbor then saw the police arrive, as a very strong odor emanated from the property. “I could feel this far. I thought there was a dead cat or something. It was on that day that the police came,” he commented. “I know how to recognize this kind of thing because I hunt pigs and when a carcass is in bad condition, the smell is the same, that’s why I thought of a dead animal,” he said. -he adds.
A relative of the family in question told the newspaper that she is “fine, as long as everyone leaves her alone”, indicating that she does not feel comfortable with the media attention. “As this is a homicide investigation, the flow of information through the media must be accurate and responsible,” a police spokesman said Tuesday. ‘As we have said before, we appreciate that there is great public interest in this case, however, there is still a fair amount of research to be done before police can comment further.’
