Hundreds of birds mysteriously die in Mexico

A video shows hundreds of birds suddenly perish in Cuauhtémoc, in the state of Chihuahua (Mexico).

The video goes around the world. On February 7, a surveillance camera recorded a strange scene in a street in Cuauhtémoc, in the state of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico. We see hundreds of birds crashing suddenly into houses and on the road, in the neighborhood of Álvaro Obregón. According to the local press, the police would have moved after receiving numerous calls. There, they reportedly found “hundreds” of dead birds migrating south from Canada. The animals were identified as yellow-headed blackbirds (Xanthocephalus).

What is the cause of these massive deaths? A veterinarian who examined the dead birds suggested they died from inhaling toxic fumes, possibly from a heater. Others mentioned the high concentration of pollutants in the atmosphere. It could also be a trajectory error. Like in 2017, when 225 starlings were found dead on a road in North Wales after crashing into the pavement as they tried to escape a predator. On the sequence, we can see that many birds managed to leave after hitting the houses and the road.
