In Bulgaria, Hungary and Greece, the police stopped a gang of people smugglers. During the simultaneous raids on Wednesday, 14 suspects were arrested and 25 vehicles, computers, cell phones and cash were confiscated in the three countries. This reports Europol.
Striking: Among the confiscated vehicles were 15 so-called “high-end cars”, that is, high-horsepower cars with which the smugglers smuggled migrants. During the two-year investigation, a total of over 100 such super sleds – including Mercedes – were discovered.
Hidden in the trunk
As Europol writes, the smugglers fled from the police with the cars approved in Bulgaria and Georgia at up to 250 km / h. They had migrants on board who had to pay 2,000 or 2,500 euros per trip. They were usually hidden in the tight trunk.
Dangerous incidents occurred during the chases. A smuggler was killed in an accident. In total, the gang smuggled 442 migrants and 13 injured. (gf)
