Hunting fair has started – Mayr-Melnhof: “We have to move closer together”

Thousands of visitors flocked to the Salzburg exhibition center on the first day and listened to the appeal of the state hunter and president of Hunting Austria, Max Mayr-Melnhof.

Anyone who wanted to make it to the exhibition center on Thursday morning in time for the official opening of the “High Hunting and Fishing” had to have good hunting skills. For the majority of visitors, the main stage on which the opening took place was more difficult to find than a mountain hare in the snow. Getting up early and reading good tracking – or route maps – only helped to a limited extent. Be that as it may, at least when you were looking for the main stage you unexpectedly came across a few other trade fair highlights. Like the “Schwarzacher Bär”. The stuffed animal has now almost become the mascot of the Salzburg hunting community. The bear, which was hit and killed by a train on the railway line between Schwarzach and Lend last year, travels with the hunters for important appointments or for training purposes. However, he still doesn’t get a name so as not to be humanized. Entrepreneur Daniel Bauchinger and Hangar7 boss Reinhard Stocker, on the other hand, were extremely human and sociable. “As a hunter you have to push with your left. Anyone who accidentally does this with their right hand must then give out a round to everyone,” explained Bauchinger. Meanwhile, state hunter and president of Hunting Austria, Max Mayr-Melnhof, had other thoughts on his mind: “Agriculture, forestry, hunting and fishing must finally move closer together. This trade fair is a good platform for that.”
