Hurricane gusts up to 165 km/h – storm “Roxana” sweeps across Switzerland – News

  • Storm low Roxana has already brought hurricane gusts in the mountains.
  • 165 kilometers per hour were measured on the Titlis and 157 kilometers per hour on the Jungfraujoch, as reported by SRF Meteo.
  • Storm gusts of over 100 km/h were also registered at night at low altitudes.

In the morning hours, further storm and hurricane gusts must be expected, especially in the outer Alpine valleys and on the mountain peaks.

In Zurich, the wind blew strongest in the lowlands at 122 kilometers per hour.

In several areas there were traffic delays due to fallen trees and objects on the road.

Legend:

A tree fell on a road near Frauenfeld and on the tracks of the Frauenfeld-Wil railway.

SRF

Some ferry services have been discontinued. For example, the car ferry on Lake Constance between Romanshorn and Friedrichshafen in Germany has ceased operations and the train to the Uetliberg in Zurich is currently not running either.

Monday prospects

According to SRF Meteo, the storm reached its maximum during the night. There should be fresh snow again on Monday. Around 20 and sometimes up to 50 cm are expected on the northern flank of the Alps or the Jura heights, but this will be carried away by the strong wind. The avalanche danger remains high. Snow is also possible in the lowlands.

In addition, gusts of 70 to 110 km/h are to be expected in Ticino and in the southern valleys of Graubünden.
