Prices are increasing everywhere, even on RAM. The price of DDR5 RAM sticks is skyrocketing (+15 to 20%) in recent weeks and this is not likely to stop.

If you’ve been thinking about building your own PC lately, decide quickly. Indeed, after a historic decline, a cocktail of industrial issues and new technological trends is rapidly increasing the price of DDR5 RAM sticks. Bad news for those who want to build or upgrade their own machines.

Demand is increasing because of AI

As a reminder, DDR5 (for “Double Data Rate 5”) is the latest standard in terms of RAM. Present in many recent devices, from phones to tablets and of course desktop and laptop PCs, DDR5 RAM modules are supposed to consume less energy than DDR4 while doubling the available bandwidth. This type of RAM memory started hitting the market since 2020-2021.

For 3 years, however, supply has far exceeded demand and stocks of memory sticks (all types combined) have started to accumulate. To avoid drowning the market, RAM manufacturers (Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix among others) have “drastically» is reducing the pace of production, according to sources speaking to Taiwan Business Times.

Unfortunately, this decline comes at a time when demand is suddenly increasing, particularly on the professional side with renewed use of DDR5 to support the ever-increasing demand for artificial intelligence machines. A shift to the general public side is also expected with more and more machines opting for DDR5 in the months/years to come.

A complicated transition phase

As a result, the prices of DDR5 strips have started to inflate by 15 to 20% and are not going to stop rising immediately. Until the industry finishes its transition phase and rebalances its inventories, the price of RAM could remain quite high.

For “fully integrated” products like smartphones or laptops, this should not be felt immediately since manufacturers have stocks of devices, but if you want to buy components directly, this may be the best time to buy, unless you are willing to wait for the market to stabilize again.

  • Interesting latency
  • Impeccable finishes

Available in EXPO version (for AMD) or XMP (for Intel), the Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5 RAM strips are quite simply the best available today. The kits exist from 6,000 MT/s to 8,000 MT/s with timing variations from CL30 to CL38 and always these two colors, black or white.

It won’t be difficult to determine your ideal combination, but it may be more difficult to obtain financing. The price is undoubtedly justified by the performance and design of these strips, but Corsair pays a lot of money.
