During the early evening walk, Husky Hel lay down next to a blanket in the bushes. She nudged her nose carefully, and a baby began to cry.

A female husky dog spotted a baby under a bush while taking an early evening walk with her master Terry Walsh through The Mounds Park in Kings Norton, Birmingham on April 22nd. “When we walked along the top of the mounds and looked in the direction of the street, there was a lot of broken glass,” reports the 64-year-old. “On my left was a rolled-up blanket in the bushes. I turned around to hold Hel so that she wouldn’t step in the broken pieces, then she turned away, went to the blanket and lay down next to it. She began to look at her with her nose nudge carefully. ” Suddenly Walsh heard a baby cry. “I think it was the warmth of the dog’s body and the nudge that woke the baby,” he explains.

Walsh raves about his attentive dog lady on the Facebook page Dignity For All: “A larger dog or one with a different temperament might just have torn the ceiling and treated the baby like a toy. Besides, there are foxes in the corner and rats and so on. ” Walsh, a little stunned, rushed to his dog and pulled the covers to the side a little – he was looking into the face of a newborn baby.

Walsh looked around but couldn’t see anyone in the immediate vicinity. About ten meters away he saw a woman with two children and ran down to her. “I didn’t mean to scare her and said, ‘Sorry, I think I found an abandoned baby up there,'” he said. The mother immediately pulled out her phone and called the West Midlands Police before the two ran up the hill. When they arrived, the mother immediately picked up the baby and Walsh held Hel. The two waited until the police came.

When the police car pulled up on the road, Walsh ran down to lead them to the site. The baby had calmed down in the meantime. “If it hadn’t been for Hel, I wouldn’t have noticed. I would have thought there was a rolled-up blanket lying there,” sums up Walsh. “I thank God that it was alive, it could have been worse.” The police called an ambulance and the baby was taken to the hospital. They said the baby was born the same day, but the little boy was doing really well.

The police could not clearly determine the ethnicity of the baby but said they wanted to find a white woman in her twenties. Walsh spoke to two teenagers who said they saw a woman with a baby in a blanket about an hour ago. A day later, the police announced their first findings: The mother had taken care of herself sufficiently during pregnancy, as the healthy condition of the little boy testifies to. She started calls for her mother to come forward. “Your baby is healthy and in good hands, but the most important person in his life is his mother and finding her is our top priority.”

On the West Midlands Police website, police are still asking for clues that may help locate the mother. Walsh told his neighbors, “Heaven sent Hel to rescue newborn baby boy!” The pun “Heaven sent Hel (l)” may not have been intended. The proud owner meant rather: “Heaven sent Hel to save a newborn boy.”
