Hybrid cars – Top 20 sales in May 2023, Renault offers the winning trifecta with the Arkana, Austral and Captur

For the 10th consecutive month, new car registrations in France are in the green (+15%). Despite everything, the increase remains well below pre-Covid levels.

AAA Data, the provider of official figures for the Automobile & Mobilities sector (PFA), announces a prolific month of May 2023 with 145,538 registrations of new passenger cars, an increase of 14.8% compared to April 2022 Despite this euphoria, AAA Data clarifies that one should not “forget that the basis of comparison remains weak. And that the level of orders is falling (-16% cumulatively from January to April), but that sooner or later the trend will be reversed“.

On the engine side, if gasoline still occupies first place with an increase of 18%, diesel continues its long descent into hell with a drop of 32%. Electrification is driven by hybrids or full hybrids whose growth is 22% with 34,395 registrations.

SALES OF NEW HYBRID PASSENGER CARS IN MAY 2023

After last month’s euphoria with Renault taking the top three places, May was a relatively calm month with little movement in the top 20. If Renault retains the top three places, that’s the order of finish who has changed. Thus, the Captur goes from 1st to 3rd place with 2818 copies (+28%; PDM of 8%) while the Renault Arkana makes the opposite path with 4219 copies (+20%; PDM of 12%). As for the Austral, it retains its second position with 3131 copies (+9%).

At Toyota, the situation is half fig, half grape. The Yaris Cross lost one place to 5th (1,978 copies; -8%; PDM of 6%) while the Yaris moved up from 7th to 4th place (2,529 copies; +89%; PDM of 7%). The situation is the same with the Corolla. This gains 4 places (882 copies; +28%; PDM of 3%), while the C-HR retains its 15th place (468 copies; -59%; PDM of 1%).

Ford is not too happy with registrations down (-1.84%). Added to this is the exit from the top 20 of the Focus (333 units; +16%; market share of 1%) and the decline of two places for the Kuga (12th; 802 units; -12%; market share of 2%) . As for the Puma, it retains its 6th place (1,778 copies; +5%; PDM of 3%).

Note the rises in this top 20 of the Kia Sportage (14th; 650 units; -27%; 2% market share), the Nissan X-Trail (16th; 410 units; 1% market share) and the Volkswagen Golf ( 18th; 394 copies; +18%; market share of 1%).
