HYDROGENE DE FRANCE: HDF Energy accelerates the development of hydrogen power plants in the Philippines thanks to two memorandums of understanding with government bodies – 06/21/2023 at 18:00

Paris, June 21, 2023

– HDF Energy (Hydrogène de France), a major developer of large green hydrogen infrastructures and manufacturer of high-power fuel cells, signed two memorandums of understanding during the 10

th

meeting of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) between the Philippines and France, held at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The main objective of these collaborations is to accelerate the development of HDF’s hydrogen power plants, with the aim of improving stable electricity supply in off-grid areas in the Philippines. The first MoU was with the Mindanao Region Development Authority (MinDA) and the Philippine Department of Energy, while the second was signed with the national utility, National Power Corporation (NPC). The French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, Mr. Becht, and the Secretary of the Philippine Department of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Alfredo Pascual, presided over the ceremony.

As an island nation highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, the Philippines faces challenges in ensuring a stable electricity supply. Indeed, many regions depend on isolated power grids powered by diesel-powered generators. These collaborations with HDF Energy aim to accelerate the development of multi-megawatt hydrogen power plants Renewstable

®

which produce electricity that is non-intermittent, renewable and available 24 hours a day. They combine intermittent renewable energy and massive energy storage in the form of hydrogen. Renewstable plants

®

present a green alternative to thermal power plants because they only use the sun and water to produce stable electricity, thus avoiding greenhouse gas emissions, fine particles and noise pollution.

The first MoU was signed with the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Philippine Department of Energy, with the aim of promoting and facilitating investments in hydrogen projects in the Mindanao region. This collaboration aims to develop ten Renewstable hydrogen power plants

®

. The second agreement was signed with the National Electricity Corporation of the Philippines (NPC) to foster joint studies, research and development, information exchange and technical assistance to facilitate the establishment of Renewstable projects

®

in remote areas of the Philippines.

These signing ceremonies marked the highlights of the 10

th

meeting of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) between the Philippines and France, which aims to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries in different sectors such as energy, agriculture, science and technology, security.

Mathieu Geze, Asia Director of HDF and Managing Director of HDF Energy Philippines, said:

We are delighted to forge strong partnerships with NPC, MinDa and the Philippine Department of Energy, joining our efforts to advance hydrogen power plant projects in the Philippines and strengthen the country’s energy independence. HDF Energy is not only a developer, investor, builder and operator of hydrogen power plants, but also a player in the progress and prosperity of the communities where our projects will be established.

»

Dr. Fernando Martin Roxas, Chairman and CEO of NPC, emphasized:

“NPC is a government-controlled state-owned company tasked with ensuring full electrification of remote areas through innovative technologies and private sector participation. This memorandum of understanding will further improve the technical capabilities and increase the resources of NPC to provide electricity services to the communities under its jurisdiction. With the support of HDF Energy and the French government, we hope to be able to carry out a pilot project to build a hydrogen power plant, which can then be replicated in various SPUG (Small Power Utilities Group) areas in the Philippines. »

Maria Belen S. Acosta, President of MinDA, said:

“We are grateful for the French government’s support for this partnership through HDF Energy’s intention to invest, build and operate low-carbon technology projects. This pioneering renewable energy generation plant in the country, once fully implemented, will be able to provide a sustainable, constant and affordable energy supply to the island. Moreover, it will support local economies, preserve natural resources and foster Mindanao’s vast investment potentials. I am convinced that through the JEC Philippines-France, we will be able to reap the fruits of HDF’s future projects. »

ABOUT HYDROGEN DE FRANCE (HDF Energy)

HDF Energy is a global pioneer in high power hydrogen power plants. The Company designs and develops power plants that produce non-intermittent, non-polluting renewable energy, day and night. In addition, HDF Energy organises, through dedicated project companies, their financing, construction and operation.

HDF is the designer of the Renewstable® power plants, its flagship model, multi-megawatt power plants producing continuous electricity from intermittent renewable energies (wind or solar) and massive storage of energy in the form of green hydrogen generated on place.

HDF Energy is also an industrialist who will mass-produce, from 2024, in its factory near Bordeaux, the most strategic component of its power plants: high-power fuel cells. Thanks to this industrial activity, HDF Energy, a major player in the production of electricity for networks, is also becoming a player in heavy, maritime and rail mobility. The company develops, with strategic partners, hydrogen freight locomotive projects as well as large ship propulsion projects and their auxiliary energy generation.

Present on five continents, HDF Energy is developing a business portfolio of more than 5 billion euros to date.

HDF Energy is listed on Compartment B of Euronext, a member of the “Euronext Tech Leaders” segment.
