Hygiene mistakes in the bathroom: germs cavort here!

Attention, attention: bacteria alarm! If you read this, these seven bathroom hygiene mistakes will never happen again.

There are some bacteria in the bathroom. And even if you think: "Everything is clean with me" there are some things that you should definitely pay attention to.

The Medical Center at New York University has found that every time the toilet is flushed, so-called aerosol is released. This creates a kind of cloud of toilet water drops. This floats around in the room and bursts after a short time – and not directly above your toilet, but where it is. And with it, the bacteria contained in it also spread. This is not hazardous to health, but you should avoid some mistakes in the future with this knowledge:

Mistake 1: Leave the toilet lid open

With the knowledge of this cloud of toilet water, you don't want to imagine where these drops will ultimately come down and possibly still settle on your toothbrush. A closed lid is also much nicer from a purely visual point of view.

Mistake 2: taking your cell phone to the toilet with you

Not only on the toilet itself, but also surfaces such as door handles, taps and toilet flushes show traces of feces. It is advisable not to take your cell phone with you or even to put it on the floor, especially in public toilets. Even when flushing, the water with urine and feces splashes in all directions and could get on your cell phone, which you are holding in your hand. Studies even show that a quarter of all handbags contain traces of feces.

Mistake 3: Store beauty utensils open

Keyword: Klowwasser-Cloud! For this reason alone, you should stow everything in a bathroom cabinet or in toiletry bags in the future. But in general, it is not nice if your make-up utensils gather dust or pollen and the like settle on your brushes and cotton swabs when they are aired.

Mistake 4: Don't wash your hands

An absolute MUST after going to the toilet! But you should always wash your hands before applying make-up. Countless germs cling to them even if you are a well-groomed person. Therefore, brushes or sponges are recommended for applying foundation, for example.

Error 5: Do not clean utensils

bath

To prevent the germs from multiplying in the first place, you should change or clean your brushes, sponges and towels every week. Strictly speaking, the 3-day rule applies to towels. But soap dispensers should also be wiped off again and again and not just wiped around them.

Mistake 6: growing bacteria on toothbrush

According to the AOK Dental Clinic Rhineland / Hamburg, the toothbrush should be changed every two to three months at the latest. Bacteria cling to it, which can not only cause inflammation of the gums, but also colds. Incidentally, the toothbrushes should be kept upside down in the toothbrush cup and, above all, not in the bathroom cabinet, but in the air.

Mistake 7: turning your bathroom into a greenhouse

In the bathroom, moisture and heat meet – and that's the perfect environment for bacteria to multiply. Whether towels or other utensils that get damp from the steam from the shower or from the wet towel must be dried. That means: towels belong on the heater and brushes and sponges should never be put into boxes when they are wet. Only when it is dry do bacteria stand no chance.
