The Netherlands is a real cycling nation. This is where the bicycle manufacturer Van Moof comes from, who is not at a loss for self-confident gestures. There they not only build e-bikes according to their own ideas, they even run commercials on television. And the rapidly expanding company wants to keep growing. The next step is to be the market launch of an S-Pedelec known as a hyperbike at the end of 2022.
The model named V is an e-bike with all-wheel drive. It should go up to 60 km / h and still be comparatively cheap at around 3500 euros.
The silhouette of the high-speed bike is based on the brand’s iconic design, while the angular profile of the frame tubes catches the eye as a new element. This design theme is also taken up by the bars of the fork or the shape of the headlight. The latter sits firmly in the massive handlebar stem, while a taillight divided into ten segments is located in the seat tube. There are additional lighting elements in the flanks of the top tube.
Other special features of the V are a tidy look thanks to internal cables and lines. The spring elements of the full-suspension chassis are also inconspicuously integrated. The wheels, fitted with voluminous tires, with hub motors in the middle at the front and rear, appear massive.
The V is powered by two units. Thanks to an intelligent control system, the all-wheel drive should offer traction and safety advantages, among other things. Like the current S3 and X3 pedelecs, the twin-motor drive will have a turbo boost function that can be called up at the push of a button, as well as an automatic gear shift. There is still no information about the performance of the motors, battery size and range.
Like many other e-bikes, the VanMoof V should theoretically be able to travel significantly faster than the 45 km / h normally allowed for S-Pedelecs. However, the regulations that apply to this category of electric bicycles have so far prevented S-Pedelecs from becoming more widespread. However, VanMoof co-founders Ties and Taco Carlier are confident that the rules will be modernized here in the near future. Among other things, VanMoof wants to work closely with city administrations to develop solutions from geofencing to revised speed limits in order to improve the legal use of fast e-bikes and strengthen their status as a car alternative.
The V is still in the development phase, but the model should be on the market as early as the end of 2022. Reservations are accepted for a fee of 20 euros.(SPX)
