Hypercharger, the 400 kW charging station by Alpitronic

Today, public charging stations offer powers ranging from 22 to 350 kW for the largest ones. Italians Alpitronic recently unveiled their high-power HYC400 terminal charging at 400 kW and which will be deployed in Germany.

Will the power of charging stations be the new race between charging station providers? It is according to it that a terminal offers a more or less fast charging speed, provided that it is accepted by the electric vehicle.

Today, the power of public terminals varies from 22 to 350 kW for the most “muscular”, like the Ionity network of Fastned. But this power could evolve upwards. At least that is the promise made by Alpitronic, an Italian company specializing in the manufacture of bollards. It is also the supplier of Electra, the French Petit Poucet with stations equipped with three to five terminals for powers ranging from 150 to 300 kW.

Alpitronic recently unveiled its first fast charging station soberly called Hypercharger. This will be equipped with “bodybuilt” HYC400 terminals, with a charging power of 400 kW. The first station of this kind will be marketed at the end of 2022.

It should notably appear on the Deustchlandnetz, the name given to a German network of charging stations which should peak at a thousand throughout Germany. The government across the Rhine has given itself the means by releasing 2 billion euros.

One of the government’s requirements is that each station be able to “have two charging points allowing two vehicles to be charged at the same time, and that a nominal charging power of 200 kW is available per charging point”. To which Alpitronic replied that its Hypercharger station met these requirements and that the yield should be 97% in “full load condition”.

Alpitronic knows Germany well. Indeed, the company has equipped one of the largest charging sites operated by the German energy company EnBW with 26 HYC300 fast terminals. This type can deliver up to 300 kW on a single electric car or 150 kW when there are two simultaneous recharges.
